Rose gold romance

Becca and Jonny had a fabulous New Year's Eve party to celebrate their nuptials

Jonathan Leatherbarrow and Rebecca Cummings met while they were both working in the same school. “We went to a comedy night for a staff outing and we sat next to each other,” Becca remembers. “I told a few people at work that I thought he was good looking and the matchmakers soon got to work.” From their first date at Manchester Christmas market, they didn't stop laughing and three years later Jonny was planning to pop the question. “We were on a break to Dublin and on the last night we went for a meal at Sophie's restaurant, which has a 360-degree view of the city,” the bride says. “The manager brought over two glasses of champagne and I tried to send them back as I hadn't ordered them. Jonny then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I started crying, and of course I said 'Yes!'” After announcing the news to family and friends, the happy couple started planning the wedding of their dreams for the 31st December, 2017. Becca tells us how they did it…

We first viewed Pryors Hayes Golf Club when it was still under construction. The spacious reception room, picturesque grounds and separate lounge area meant it was perfect for us. We were keen to make sure all our guests were relaxed

Our rose gold and grey colour scheme was a contemporary take on a rustic theme. We chose gypsophila and eucalyptus arrangements in cut-glass vases and jugs on wooden slabs. Wooden hearts and burnished tea light holders completed the look.

As a nod to our Irish engagement, we had little envelopes containing shamrock seeds as favours with the words 'Lucky in Love' printed on them.

Rose gold romance: Image 4After a lot of research, I settled on a simple bouquet of white ranunculi, pink avalanche roses, gypsophila and foliage. The bridesmaids had smaller versions of my posy and the style was reflected in our buttonholes and corsages for the wedding party.

Rose gold romance: Image 4b I wore a stunning dress by Sincerity. It was a lace, off-the-shoulder number with an illusion back and fabric-covered buttons. It was exactly what I pictured myself wearing walking down the aisle towards Jonny. The seamstress at 7th Heaven Bridal was brilliant, adding boning to my gown for extra support.

One of our best friends is a talented wood turner. He made us a guestbook, which was an oak frame with wooden hearts for loved ones to sign and drop in. It's now hanging pride of place in our home.

Jonny wore a skinny-fit DKNY suit and the groomsmen wore similar grey suits with slim ties. My best girls are all different shapes and sizes, but they all looked gorgeous in floor-length sequinned dresses. My super-cute goddaughter wore a white dress from Debenhams and she loved being pampered on the day

Rose gold romance: Image 7We incorporated lots of personal touches throughout the day. I made baskets of smellies for the ladies' toilets – an idea borrowed from my friend. There were rose gold hanging decorations and cards on each table for our guests to fill in with their advice for married life.

Rose gold romance: Image 7b I love Harry Potter so I created a themed sweet table. I made snitches out of Ferrero Rocher, labelled all the jars after Honeydukes sweets and decorated the table with copies of the books.

After the church ceremony, we boarded two vintage double-decker buses to the venue. Staff served us prosecco and beer and all our guests loved it.

The photo booth, provided by our photographer's second shooter, went down a storm. Our loved ones got to keep printed versions for themselves and we can download the hilarious snaps from an online album.

When I was a little girl dreaming of getting married, I always wanted fireworks at the end of the night – just like in the Disney films. My dad knew this so arranged a fantastic display. We even had a big red button to set them off!
