Ailsa and Chris met working at The George Hotel in Hexham, however, it was another seven years before Chris popped the question. “He said he wouldn't propose until we'd been together a decade, which made it a total surprise” says Ailsa. “We were in Portugal with friends who captured the moment – by the pool, listening to Birdy's Wings and with the sun setting over the ocean.”
It took 18 months for Ailsa to plan, with Chris doing his fair share – including picking the bridesmaids' robes to wear the morning of the wedding.
Here, Ailsa tells us more about their big day…
Healey Barn is incredible and we loved its vaulted ceiling and fairylights. It was as close to getting married at the family farm without being there.
I tried on around 40 dresses before finding the one – I'd lost a lot of weight prior to the wedding, so wanted to show that off without feeling uncomfortable.
Flowers were a huge part of our day and I loved the mix of ranunculus, anemones, blossom, roses and greenery in my bouquet.
As we both love gin we decided to name our tables after different brands, as well as having moss-filled lanterns and gin bottles with flowers for centrepieces.
My mum made our rustic ivory Italian meringue cake – a delicious Guinness and chocolate, Victoria sponge and lemon creation.
I don't normally wear a lot of make-up but loved my look on the day. My hair stylist was so patient, too – even putting up with late night emails of styles I liked!
