Chelsea and Gary's bright an beautiful theme filled Healey Barn with cheer

Chelsea Hendy, 24, married Gary Hewison, 24, at Healey Barn on 1st February, 2017.

When Gary sat down to watch the school production, little did he know he was about to clap eyes on his future wife. But as Chelsea took to the stage, his future was written. And indeed, the school sweethearts got engaged two years later, with Gary proposing in the same Italian restaurant where they'd enjoyed their first date back in 2009. “Knowing I'm shy, he discretely showed me the ring just before dessert and asked me to be his wife,” reveals Chelsea.

A five-year engagement followed while Chelsea – a microbiologist – finished university and the couple saved for their big day, although Chelsea estimates that they spent two years in total actively planning.

Here, Chelsea tells us more about their big day…

When we first visited Healey Barn it wasn't even finished and we had to wear hard hats, but we fell in love with it instantly and knew it was the one.

Over the rainbow: Image 2aI tried on about 12 dresses, and my final choice – a strapless gown by Stella York – was the complete opposite of what I had in mind but it just felt right.

Over the rainbow: Image 2 Our cake was a five-tier creation covered in white chocolate ganache and decorated with small, graduated multi-coloured piped dots.

The groomsmen wore black tuxedos with white shorts – each with a bow tie and pocket square in a different rainbow shade.

Over the rainbow: Image 4aOur nephews – all eight of them – wore white shirts with multi-coloured bow ties.

Over the rainbow: Image 4 My bridesmaids helped me to make the origami bouquets – theirs were black and white with a coloured ribbon to match their dresses, while mine was a mix of all the colours.

My bridesmaids wore floor-length, chiffon gowns, each in a different colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink). We all wore converse – theirs had co-ordinated laces, while mine were multi-coloured.

Over the rainbow: Image 6aOur centrepieces were jars of sweets tied with lace and ribbon – the top table was multi-coloured, with the others all assigned one rainbow shade.

Over the rainbow: Image 6 We sourced our bunting from Emma Bunting – it really bought our rainbow theme to life.

I travelled to the venue with both my parents in a Mercedes, hired from James Cars.

I rarely wear make-up and always have my hair up for work, so my wedding day look was a total transformation!
