It was fun all the way for Nicola and Trevor's city-chic wedding

Nicola Bland (28) married Trevor Varian (35) at Islington Town Hall followed by a reception at Paternoster Chop House on 3rd September, 2016.

I've loved Islington Town Hall ever since a childhood visit – I love the way that, in the Council Chamber, your guests surround you as you recite your vows.

Lush in blush: Image 2aI was adamant that I wanted a two-piece but when we went to Morgan Davies Bridal, my mum picked up this backless gown and insisted I tried it on. When I looked in the mirror, I thought 'yep, this is my dress'.

Lush in blush: Image 2 We hired a Routemaster to transport guests between the ceremony and reception venues. The dad of one of my bridesmaids is a cabbie and surprised me with a white cab on the day, which was lovely.

My bridesmaids wore midnight-blue, sweetheart strapless netted cocktail dresses. I wanted a fun, city feel. They wore their hair loose and carried a simple bouquet of gypsophila.

Lush in blush: Image 4aWe hired the billboard of the Everyman Screen on the Green cinema for some original Mr & Mrs shots. When our guests travelled past on the bus, they all saw the sign and us outside it.

Lush in blush: Image 4 I chose peonies, hydrangea, roses and gypsophila in shades of blush and cream for my bouquet and the table centrepieces. My bouquet was tied with rustic twine, which was also wrapped around bell jars for the reception arrangements.

We continued the rustic theme through to the cake, with a naked design. Each tier was a different flavour – lemon, carrot and red velvet – although you'd never have guessed once it was dusted in sugar.

Lush in blush: Image 6aTrevor loved searching for the perfect tailor to make his suit. I think he was more excited about this than the wedding!

Lush in blush: Image 6 For our favours, I sourced Alice in Wonderland-style shot bottles, which we filled with Tequila Rose and tied with a label saying, 'Take a shot, we've tied the knot'.

A friend recommended our DJ and he was just brilliant.

Lush in blush: Image 8aAs our reception venue was a restaurant, we didn't need much in the way of décor.

Lush in blush: Image 8 We set up a guestbook table, and added flowers and polaroids to the tables.

Post-wedding, a lot of guests told us that the day was very 'us', and they felt we hadn't forgotten what everyone was there for – to see us get married. I love that.
