A rustic theme paired with an abundance of wild flowers set the feel for Katie and Alex's big day

Katie and Alex both met when they respectively worked in Topshop and Topman. “Katie covered a shift working with me and that was the start of our friendship,” says Alex. “It took a few years for a romance to happen, but I eventually asked Katie if she would be my girlfriend in Nando's – not the most romantic I'll admit, but the sentiment was there.”

Three years later, Alex popped the question in York, which is where Katie went to university. He wanted to propose in the Museum Gardens but unfortunately they were closed on the day. “I ended up asking Katie to marry me along the banks of the river, it was the windiest day and there were branches and leaves flying around! The ring didn't fit but it was a vintage find and she was still completely surprised and said 'yes'.”

Here, Alex tells us more about their special day...

Guests were entertained by lawn games provided by the venue. The kids started a game of cricket, which was quickly overtaken by the adults.

Country loving: Image 2a“My bouquet was inspired by a country meadow, which tied in nicely with our venue.” – Katie

Country loving: Image 2 “I opted for a Pronovias dress called Domingo. I knew I wanted a simple gown and this was perfect for me.” – Katie

“I gave the bridesmaids free reign to choose their own dresses – they opted for a mint-coloured gown from Coast.” says Katie

Country loving: Image 4aI picked a midnight blue tuxedo from John Lewis. The groomsmen chose their own attire, which could have been a disaster, but they did well and went for a grey blazer, with dark trousers and bow ties that matched mine.

Country loving: Image 4 The cake was a naked Victoria sponge, which worked well with the other details on the day.

“We honeymooned for two weeks in Walt Disney World, Florida, where we enjoyed running about like big kids. Our beautiful baby boy, Indigo, was born on the 7th July, 2016, and we'll be taking him there when he's older.” – Alex

Country loving: Image 6aKatie's dad Vin is a folk musician and played during the signing of the register – which is becoming a family tradition.

Country loving: Image 6 Our décor was a mix of country vintage and folky chic – quite natural and minimalist boasting plenty of candles in jars and our tableplan was displayed on black boards.

The evening was topped off with the DJ playing indie classics bringing back the 2000's, which went down well with our guests.
