A White Christmas

A winter wonderland theme filled with fun and festive touches made Lucie and Jamie's big day at The Lawn.

It was Lucie’s sister Laura and Jamie’s best friend ‘H’ who introduced the pair to one another back in 2004 – though Jamie admits love took its time. “We didn’t see much of each other at first, just at the odd party, and only realised we liked each other romantically after returning from a group holiday with Laura and H in 2008,” he says. "Actually, to be honest, I knew I liked her from the moment I saw her, it just took her four years to realise the feeling was mutual!”

Happily she did – prompting Jamie to get down on one knee on Madison’s roof terrace in London. “I asked her to come and see the view from the other end of the terrace, making up some terrible excuse about being able to see West Ham’s new stadium – which
clearly she was dying to see,” he explains. “Once I had her on her own, I popped the question, to which Lucie shouted ‘Really?’ Thankfully, after what seemed like an
eternity of being crouched down awkwardly on one knee, she said ‘yes’.”

Here, the couple share all the details of their wintry wedding day…

A White Christmas: Image 1
We immediately loved The Lawn. The thing that really sold it to us was when the owner showed us pictures of how they decorate it in December. It was elegant, wintry and Christmassy – exactly what we were looking for.

A White Christmas: Image 2aExpecting winter weather, we didn't want to be in and out of different venues, and at The Lawn, we could have the ceremony and reception under one roof.

A White Christmas: Image 2 We loved the Orangery where we had our wedding breakfast – and the fact that it was separated off from the evening area to keep everyone in the same place.

All the boys wore navy blue slim-fit lounge suits from Anthony Exclusive Formalwear in Billericay. It has such a good reputation and was the first and only place we visited. This made the whole process easy and enjoyable.

A White Christmas: Image 4aI was rocking a pair of sparkle-toe Converse under my dress. I felt comfortable and feminine but still with my 'Lucie' edge!

A White Christmas: Image 4 We used large lanterns with candles for our ceremony table.

I'm a bit of a tomboy and didn't think I'd ever find what I wanted, so I decided to design the dress myself and have it made. My original plan was to have a grey gown but the fantastic dressmaker advised me it might look a bit dirty in the photos, so I opted for a beautiful shade of ice blue.

A White Christmas: Image 6aWe had trees with candles hanging from the branches for our centrepieces.

A White Christmas: Image 6 Our florist put it all together, exactly as I'd pictured.

We managed to get a large version of the centrepiece trees and hung tags from it as our table plan. Our tables were named after characters from the film Elf – my all-time favourite film!

A White Christmas: Image 8aWe wanted a wintry, snow-covered village on top of our cake made out of gingerbread.

A White Christmas: Image 8 One tier was chocolate, the other lemon and the sides were decorated with edible icicles and snowflakes.

Our DJ Jimmy Lee did such an amazing job – the dancefloor was packed all night and he was the talk of the evening.
