A timeless classic

Traditional charm was Fern and Ben's dream for their celebration at Linden Hall Golf and Country Club

Fern and Ben both grew up in Ashington, a small mining village. “Our parents both live a street apart so we've have known of each other for many years,” says Fern. “But it wasn't until we had friends in common that we got better acquainted. We didn't have a typical first date – Ben used to walk me home after nights out and we would sit on the church wall and talk for a while.” Ben got down on one knee on the 26th October, 2013, after travelling back up north from Kent where he plays cricket for the county. “We were getting ready to go for a meal and drinks with his friends, as he hadn't been home following the season,” says Fern. “As he ushered me down to get our taxi, I turned the on the light in the living room and he was in there with the ring. Needless to say, it was a surprise.” The couple opted for a local ceremony at Holy Sepulchre Vicarage. Here, Fern tells us more about their special day...

Ben wore a navy suit, complete with a white shirt, waistcoat, navy tie, trousers, and brown shoes.

My bridesmaids Sarah Robertson, Paige Louise Bailes and Ashleigh Burton all wore beautiful gowns which had a pearl and jewel design under the bust and a loose flowing full-length skirt. The dress fit them all, even though one was seven months pregnant on the wedding day.

A timeless classic: Image 3 I'd originally wanted a dress with long laced arms but felt this didn't suit me, the boutique owner suggested that I try this style and at first I was hesitant but so glad I did.

Sean McCaffery was Ben's best man, while his friends Josh Robinson and Gary Bailes were ushers. Along with both our fathers, we all went and picked the suits together.

Our photographer Paul emailed me a few days before the wedding and said he had some sparklers and thought it would make for a brilliant photo, which it did!

After meeting Paul we booked him straight away, he was amazing and was full of ideas. I have suggested him to friends and they have gone on to book him for their wedding.
