A purple and cream colour scheme set the tone for Helen and Mikey's big day

"We met on a night out at Concert Square in Liverpool and arranged for our first date to be in the city, where we drank cocktails and chatted away for hours.” says Helen. “Our first few dates went well, but he later had to cancel pre-planned ones as he was busy preparing to spend a year in Germany as part of his degree. We didn't speak while he was away, but met again by chance on his return and set up another date – we've been together ever since.”

Mikey got down on one knee on Boxing Day, 2012 at 21:02, as the couple's anniversary is on the 21st February. “It wasn't a surprise as Mikey had asked for my Dad's blessing in the lead up to Christmas,” she adds. “My dad was so overwhelmed, he told me. Mikey was a little annoyed which led to an awkward Christmas morning at my parents' house!”

Here Helen tells Your Manchester Wedding more about their day...

One fine day: Image 1
The ceremony rooms at Eaves Hall were beautiful and could accommodate our guests – we also had exclusive use which was really important to us. The building was striking, the grounds were amazing and the staff were so professional and friendly.

One fine day: Image 2aThis style was the first I tried on and I knew it was the one, but I still tried on another twenty just to make sure! I'm pear-shaped and the gown highlighted my waist, while the full-skirt skimmed by larger bottom half.

One fine day: Image 2 My skin looked flawless after my make-up artist worked her magic. It was much more polished than my usual look, without looking too overdone. I had a veil for the day, and then swapped to a silver and diamanté comb in the evening.

Mikey's friends Ryan and Mo were his best men, who, along with our fathers, wore the same three piece suit as him.

One fine day: Image 4aI had ideas of what I wanted Mikey to wear, which he took on board and chose this Royal Ascot three-piece morning suit himself – I was insistent it had to match the colour scheme, though.

One fine day: Image 4 My sister Emma and Mickey's sister Alicia were our bridesmaids. Both wore floor-length royal purple gowns, and carried cream roses, purple freesias and lisianthus.

One fine day: Image 5
stayed at the Lodge at Eaves Hall the night before the ceremony and only had to travel up the drive. My dad and I arrived in a sapphire-blue Bentley Continental driven by my father-in-law, whereas Mikey hired a Jaguar F-type for the whole weekend, which he travelled to the wedding in, and used for our mini-moon to the Lake District.

One fine day: Image 6aMy dad made my brooch bouquet using pieces my mum and I collected between us – the final antique amethyst brooch on the handle was a gift from Mikey on the morning of the wedding.

One fine day: Image 6 We decorated the venue with purple and cream hydrangeas and roses. We had table centrepieces on top of silver candelabras. The groom, best men and fathers had matching boutonnières, and our mothers had handbag arrangements.

One fine day: Image 7
Everyone loved our sweetie table – it was empty within an hour!

One fine day: Image 8aI found a picture of a cake I liked online, with ombre petals falling down the front. We changed the colour to fit in with our day – it comprised of lemon and chocolate tiers and was delicious.

One fine day: Image 8 We had a brilliant band called the New York Brass Band – as the weather was lovely, we had our first dance outside, while they played an instrumental version of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

One fine day: Image 9
Mikey organised a fireworks display during the reception as a surprise for me.
