Five years after they first met, Danny took Roxy to Valencia to celebrate her 30th birthday and unearthed more than she bargained for. He woke her before daybreak to whisk her off to Malvarossa beach to watch the sunrise. “When we got there it was beautiful, but freezing. Danny called me over and said he'd found my present in the sand. He uncovered a shell and inside was an engagement ring. He was down on one knee and, until he actually asked me to marry me, I had no idea what was going on,” Roxy recalls.
The wedding took 12 months to organise, styled around a vintage, English garden theme with a pastel colour scheme. Read on for Roxy's account of their big day...
The rose garden stole it for me, as well as the size and simplicity of the marquee.
The hall is steeped in history and we loved the ceremony room.
I wore my hair down and curly with a custom-made Grecian-style headband.
Our 18-month-old niece Eva was the flowergirl and she looked adorable.
We printed pictures of all our guests, which we stuck to postcards and then got everyone to write messages on the back to display in a hanging photo holder.
“The day was really relaxed and we felt totally chilled out all day, and so did our guests.” – Roxy
We had a decorated hamper for collecting the cards.
My bouquet was made up of white peonies and roses.
We didn't want a posh sit-down meal as we're pretty laid-back, so we had fish and chips followed by knickerbocker glories.
We gave our cake maker Kirsty a copy of the invites and asked her to base the design around that. It was absolutely beautiful and tasted amazing.
We gave Yankee Candle floral wax tarts to the ladies as favours.
We gave vintage key bottle openers to the men as favours.
