Anita and Dan had a grand wedding with a vintage twist, stunning lighting and lots of music

An encounter in a bar led Anita Dolan, 31, to Daniel Monaghan, also 31. “We met at the Railway Pub in Hale through a mutual friend,” laughs Anita. “I took the mickey out of him for wearing shorts in March!” A while after their first encounter, they met for drinks at a bar in Altrincham as friends – or so Anita thought. “Dan told me otherwise!” His persistence paid off, and on Christmas Day, Anita had a surprise in her stocking – a series of boxes with notes in, leading to an engagement ring.

Here, Anita tells us all about their wedding day…

I was baptised and confirmed at St Vincent's Church, and I have a lot of memories associated with it.

Manchester Town Hall was the first venue we saw. The building was striking and the location was perfect.

When I got to the shop, the dress was was hanging on a rail to one side but had been ordered in for someone else. Luckily the girl was running late so I got to try it on – it was perfect.

The bridesmaids wore nude-coloured strapless maxi dresses with a vintage brooch in the centre. I made the decision about the dresses – I think I needed to with six bridesmaids!

Dan wore a navy blue pin-striped suit with an ivory tie.

Dan had two best men, Rory and Matthew, while his brothers Jason and Jonathon and friend Luke were ushers.

My friend, who runs Obbo Accessories, made me a wonderful vintage headpiece, which I loved.

Guiding light: Image 8
My flowers were a mix of ivory roses, peonies, green foliage, amnesia roses and gypsophila.

I really liked the hair style I went for in the end; it was a half-up, half-down, to the side look.

The centrepieces were antique silver candelabra. We needed something grand to fill the huge room and they were perfect.

Guiding light: Image 11aWe hired a lighting company to provide mood lighting – they did an amazing job.

Guiding light: Image 11 I'm so glad we invested in lots of entertainment – a harpist and choir at the church, string quartet for the drinks reception, jazz band during dinner, and a band for the evening. It was all fabulous.

It was great spending time with my new husband in the vintage car that took us to the reception. We were both so excited and loved waving and beeping at passing cars – we felt famous!

Ray Kearney, our photographer, was recommended by the Town Hall. He was fantastic.

We treated guests to a vintage sweet shop at our reception.

We had a one off wow-factor floral display in our drinks reception area; I collected trinkets to hang off it.
