Love is all around

Sophie and Abel met at work. “Abel had the cheek to ask my boss to set us up on a date,” says Sophie. “My boss suggested I go for a drink with him as I was new to the role. I thought he was really fun and attractive and we’ve been together ever since.”

Abel popped the question during a trip to South Africa. “We had been on a beautiful safari and popped back to our villa to change for dinner,” shares the bride. “He took us on a different route to the restaurant, and I happily followed as I have zero sense of direction. Turns out he had planned a private dinner for us, complete with candles, flowers, champagne and incredible views of the stunning landscape. During dinner he asked me to marry him, and I cried (a lot). It was the best day of my life.”

"We moved to Richmond when we bought our first home and quickly fell in love with the area," explains Sophie. "We have made so many happy memories and really wanted to keep our wedding close to home. Our venues perfectly captured our personalities and were exactly what we were looking for."

The lovebirds decided to give their guests miniature pots of marmalade made by Sophie's grandad as favours. "They were delicious," shares the bride. "We had messages for months afterwards from guests saying how much they enjoyed it and asked if they could get hold of more!"

Love is all around: Image 2 For their table plan, they hired the talented Kate Ridyard Calligraphy. "We loved it so much that we've since had it framed," explains Sophie. "Our tables were named after our favourite vineyards and Kate incorporated our theme into the design perfectly."

Love is all around: Image 3 The couple's big-day bake was made by Le Papillon Cakes. "We wanted something pretty, but not too fussy, that all our guests could enjoy," shares Sophie. "We loved the design. It was a tower of mini spongeswith a cake at the top. Everything was gone by the end of the night and tasted amazing."

Love is all around: Image 4 Sophie and Abel decided to have lots of beautiful flowers. "Our florist, Bramble & Moss, created stunning bouquets, buttonholes and gorgeous arrangements for the church," says the bride. "Our wedding coordinator, Trust in Love, then moved them to our reception venue. Petersham Nurseries did all of our table displays, and our coordinator ensured our burgundy theme flowed throughout the décor."

Love is all around: Image 5 "We wanted to incorporate our colour scheme into the reception venue, so we hired balloons from Bubblegum Balloons," reveals Sophie. "The team transformed the space, which looked amazing. In the evening, we had the most incredible meal at Petersham Nurseries, followed by finger food at the Terrace Bar at Revolution. We also created our own sweet table that proved to be extremely popular."

To transport everyone, they booked a lovely car from White London Taxi and a mini-bus from Mayday Travel.

"I tried on a few gowns, but everyone loved my dress which made the decision easy. I accessorised with Sophia Webster wedges as the earthy ground at Petersham Nurseries would have been tricky to navigate in stilettos!"

Abel wore a tailored three-piece chequered suit from Suit Supply. "The groomsmen opted for blue suits from French Connection," explains the bride. "They chose a lighter blue waistcoat and burgundy ties."

"The bridesmaids chose burgundy dresses in different styles from David's Bridal," shares Sophie. "They all looked phenomenal, and it was lovely seeing their individual styles shine through."

Love is all around: Image 8 "We had a wonderful singer at the church who did the most beautiful rendition of Ave Maria while we signedthe register," shares Sophie. "We also had a harpist playa mixture of modern and classic music which created a wonderful atmosphere as everyone was soaking up the scenery. Our evening band, Soul Supreme, were probably the thing our guests talked about the most after the day. The dancefloor was full all night, and they learnt our first dance song, which was a lovely, personal touch."

Love is all around: Image 9 "On the morning of our nuptials, I loved getting ready with the girls but by the time we left for the church I was shaking with nerves," Sophie shares. "I was so glad that our venues were places that were really special to us which meant we could relax and by the early evening Ihad kicked off my shoes and stayed on the dancefloor for hours."

Love is all around: Image 10 The couple's nearest and dearest made their nuptials perfect. "The love and support from both our families has always been phenomenal and seeing them all together in one place made the day special irrespective of the wedding," adds the bride. "We felt that Rachelle and her fab team from Trust in Love were amazing. She went above and beyond to make sure everything ran seamlessly, which is no mean feat across three venues! Last but not least, we have to mention all the amazing effort from our bridesmaids and ushers in the lead up to and on the day. They were huge contributions, and we felt incredibly lucky to have them by our sides."

Love is all around: Image 11 "We went to South Africa for a three-week honeymoon," reveals Sophie. "It's the highlight of our lives so far. We planned it together and made the most of the stunning scenery, sunshine, food and drink. We ordered lots of wine to ship back to the UK, so that has been helping us dodge the post-honeymoon blues."
