Charlie and Nikita’s wedding was full of love and celebrations Images courtesy of Amy Woodham Photography AROUND Charlie and Nikita first crossed paths at a college house party when they were just teenagers. Both were eager to escape the chaos, stealing a quiet moment away from the noise. Charlie figured they’d never see each other again – they were on completely different courses and had separate circles of friends. But Nikita, who wasn’t usually the forward type, made a bold move and found her on Facebook, hoping to stay in touch. Fast forward a few years to Nikita’s birthday trip to Switzerland. The two stopped in Montreux, a place Nikita had always wanted to visit because of its “really cool castle on the water.” At first, Charlie wasn’t too impressed – castles were Nikita’s thing – and complained about the long train ride. But when they arrived, Charlie was thrilled to discover that Montreux was home to a museum and statue of Freddie Mercury, her absolute obsession. Naturally, she suggested they skip the castle and visit the museum instead. But Nikita was set on visiting the castle, promising it had the perfect photo spot with Lake Geneva in the background. Soon enough, they were queuing for that ideal photo op. When it was their turn, Nikita approached a group of older ladies and asked them to take their picture. He even took Charlie’s phone, saying he wanted “options” in case one camera didn’t capture it just right. As they posed, Charlie – who doesn’t love being the centre of attention – kept whispering, “Okay, I think they’ve got it. Let’s go.” Then, out of nowhere, Nikita got down on one knee. Charlie felt like she’d blacked out. What she didn’t know was that Nikita had asked the ladies (in Russian) to film the proposal. Since she didn’t speak the language and had no idea what was happening. These days, she has taken it as a sign and even started learning Russian. Here, the bride shares details about their special day... Love all 34
