Elaine and Jake had a relaxed country wedding with a thrilling two-wheeled guest appearance

Wedding cake maker Elaine Honey, 32, and Jake Dent, 25, met at the pub Elaine used to run near where Jake lived in Runswick Bay. “He always said the right thing and he came in more and more to see me, until one day he admitted he liked me,” explains Elaine. The couple's first date was a trip on Jake's motorbike. “It was the first time I'd ever ridden on the back of a bike, but Jake made me feel very safe,” she recalls. “We went for a ride then stopped off in Whitby for some delicious ice cream, something that quickly became a new routine for us.”

Jake chose a romantic trip away as the setting for his proposal. “He had arranged a whole weekend away and, booked a beautiful hotel with an amazing spa, where we had champagne and a fantastic meal,” recalls Elaine. “He took me out shopping for some new bike boots – I know to most people that isn't very romantic, but to me they were everything I wanted,” she laughs. “He'd already asked my dad's permission, so he got down on one knee just as we were entering a cocktail bar and popped the question.”

Here, Elaine reveals all about their celebration...

My sister Diane, sister-in-law Keeley and best friend Julia were my bridesmaids. They wore simple cream dresses, which were strapless with a lace-up back and flowing skirt with a flower detail. My niece Willow was my flowergirl; she looked so cute in her dress with matching wand

Elaine's tip: Organise well in advance. The less you need to do just before your big day, the better.

I tried on a few dresses but narrowed it down to two. When I went back to try them on I found this one, a completely different gown, which I fell in love with instantly.

Helen Guy did my hair and make-up – as I'm in the industry I chose the people I have got to know and trust. I don't really wear much make-up, so it was nice to have a natural look with a little pop of colour.

I wore a beautiful handmade comb in my hair. Jane from H F Couture, who made the comb, is another friend in the industry. She matched the colours perfectly and I loved it.

Villa Farm suited what we were looking for in our venue. It has lots of accommodation and we could hire it out for three days and have a real celebration. There was so much space and the owners were so helpful –it was everything we wanted.

My very close friend Allison from Alice & Rose Floral was the most helpful person I could have asked for. I gave her my ideas and told her the styles I liked, and left the rest to her. I couldn't have asked for anything more, the floral arrangements were beautiful.

The best man was Jake's brother Jason – he was amazing. He did everything and more to help make our day special. My three sons, Sam, Joe and Zak, were pageboys. Joe, my middle son was also in charge of our rings, and he did a great job.

Rev up your engines: Image 10 We sent out music request forms with the invites so that everybody could have some input into the evening's entertainment. David Green, our DJ, is a really nice guy who knows a lot about music – I made his wedding cake so it was great that we could have him at our wedding!

Rev up your engines: Image 11aJim Poyner, our photographer, was the first person I contacted when we had a date in mind; he was the one and only person for the job. He's an utter professional and totally got the style of our day.

Rev up your engines: Image 11 I work as a cake maker and I was so incredibly busy leading up to the wedding making cakes for everybody else that I left mine until the last minute! I chose a simple design, as I had to assemble it myself on the morning of the wedding. I love cakes, and I chose lots of different flavours for everyone to enjoy.

We hired a cocktail bar for our drinks reception, and that worked fantastically – everybody enjoyed a cocktail or two!

We'd stayed at the venue the night before so we didn't need transport, but we used Jake's motorbike for photos as he wanted it to be part of the wedding. He wouldn't let me put flowers on it, though!
