During a getaway to Amsterdam, the pair went on a romantic trip through the canals on a gondola, which was where Danielle asked Nicola to marry her. Resulting in plenty of happy tears and laughter, she of course said 'yes!' Two months later, Nicola created a plan for a second proposal during a holiday in Mexico by spelling out 'will you marry me?'
Danielle's dad made a crate to display the cake on, which he had spray-painted with our names and the date of our wedding. Danielle's auntie created an amazing sweet cart for everyone to enjoy and tuck in to, it was loaded with sweets and included personalised sweet bags for our wedding day.
The Priory has a fantastic in-house chef, so we were treated to some delicious food for our wedding breakfast. Canapés were served during the reception drinks, and for the main course, we opted for lamb chump, which was delicious. We ate a gorgeously smooth custard tart for dessert.
I wore a simple but elegant dress from David's Bridal; it was fitted but not too tight as I wanted to eat and drink to my heart's content. Many people commented on how well our dresses complemented each other even though we had kept them secret!
Danielle wore a beautiful dress. She tried on lots of styles on but quickly found that a Watters Wtoo Locklin dress was perfect.
It had a lovely embroidered bodice and light floaty netted skirt with multiple layers! She was also lucky enough to wear her mum's veil from 30 years ago, which she had kept in pristine condition.
We opted to use Hitchin Executive travel for us both and our bridesmaids in a couple of lovely Mercedes Benz. We also used TKR Travel in Stevenage to transport ourwider family members to and from the venue in a minibus.
I loved being with my family and bridesmaids getting ready and enjoyed twirling around in my stunning dress!
Our groomsmen wore navy three-piece suit with pastel pink ties.
Our bridesmaids wore pastel pink off-the-shoulder dresses with floral decoration across the bodice – we hoped it was a style that would suit all!
Danielle says the whole day was perfect, but when she saw me walk down the aisle, that was particularly special. She looked absolutely amazing.
When we threw our bouquets, we somehow managed to throw them to Danielle's sister and sister-in-law, which made for some entertaining reactions from their boyfriends!
One of our first bookings was Lee Smith Magic. He was fantastic and kept the guests on the edge of their seats throughout the drink's reception and wedding breakfast with his tricks! We had so many amazing comments about Lee.
The speeches were one of the highlights of the day. Danielle's fathers speech was so sweet and emotional. Plus, we both had friends who gave absolutely hilarious speeches and put a lot of time and effort into making them special.
Sam Lewis sung an acoustic set as we walked down the aisle and during our ceremony, which made it extra special and different! He then played for our guests during the drink's reception and by the time the band joined in the evening, our friends and family were well into the swing of the party!
Whilst looking around a few venues, we established that we were after something that was beautiful but not too traditional, and a barn seemed to fit the bill. When we first visited The Priory we couldn't stop smiling, we remember turning to each other as we walked away and we both said at the same time – this is the one!
In keeping with the décor of barn, the centrepieces were presented on tree trunks and consisted of tall jars filled with a floral display of pastel pinks and whites.
Danielle's mum made fudge for our favours presented them in little boxes with maps of the world to reflect our travel-theme. We also gave everyone a picnic can of drink to reflect our love of a party – it said, 'Take a Can for Nic and Dan'.
Danielle's mum is a great baker and made us the most amazing wedding cake.
In keeping with the other decorative touches, she managed to make a cake that looked like tree trunklogs stacked on top of eachother – it was incredible and tasted amazing.
Our bouquets were also made from artificial flowers which meant we can keep them forever!
We had the table plan printed on a world map and placed an old-fashioned travelling trunk with travel guides in the bottom – each table was named after a country we'd visited together.
The outdoor space was also amazing, really spacious and well kept. The owner John and wedding manager, Karen were so flexible and accommodating with all our requests and we were confident that everything would be managed on the day without a hitch.
We have one phrase for the day – 'best day ever!' I couldn't stop smiling; to have all of our friends and family in one room to celebrate with us was an indescribable feeling and one I will cherish forever.
