Kayleigh met Richard at work at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital. “We'd both trained as biomedical scientists and started in the haematology and transfusion labs within the same year,” says Kayleigh. “We had a pre-date a couple of months after I started, watching a local band at The Cluny. It was never broached as a date, but it gave us an opportunity to get to know each other. Richard even roped in a couple of his friends at the last minute so he didn't look overly keen!”
The couple had been together for three-and-a-half years when Richard proposed. “We'd booked tickets to see The National in Berlin so were in Germany for a long weekend,” continues the bride. “Richard arranged dinner at Solar, a sky lounge restaurant from which we could see the city lit up. Afterwards, we went for a walk through the Tiergarten park to see the changing leaves lit by oil lamps. We came across a little stream, where Richard proposed.”
It took the couple a year to plan their wedding, starting by booking a venue visit on the flight home from Berlin. Here Kayleigh tells us more about their big day…
As well as being stunning, the venue was exclusive to our wedding party. The barns are set amid fields of sheep, and the whole setting felt quiet but stately and beautiful without being showy.
Bridal gowns, on the whole, are designed to maximise femininity, and as I'm quite thin, I struggled to find a dress that wasn't too low cut orfigure-hugging. The dress I found was incredible a fitted top with an A-line skirt, complete with appliqué lace flowers.
Richard and his groomsmen wore natural green tweed waistcoats and jackets with a faint check alongside corduroy trousers. A golden tie complemented the autumnal feel, while the majority also wore cufflinks in the style of autumn leaves.
Our wedding flowers featured soft ruscus, pale roses both charmant and spray with white berries, purple alstroemeria and calla lilies. I didn't wantbridal flowers that were too neat or clipped, so my bouquet was slightly wilder than my bridemaids'.
My cousin, who's a professional hair stylist, did an incredible job on the bridal party's wedding hair. My make-up was gorgeous too I don't normally wear a lot but loved being glammed up for the day!
Our tables featured a mix of miniature LED trees and white birdcages accented with foliage. Others had rustic lanterns with LED candles, all of which sat on tree slices to tie them together.
My bridesmaids looked beautiful in their floor-length, one-shoulder dresses with a Grecian swag across the front. I loved the idea of aubergine dresses but felt it would look too bold next to my gown, so I chose two in aubergine and two in pale lavender.
Our semi-naked three-tier cake featured lemon and blueberry, chocolate fudge and strawberry and white chocolate flavours. The semi-naked icing gave the cake a rustic look, and it was dressed with seasonal fruits like figs and berries
Our DJ was fantastic! We sent in a list of songs we'd like played, and they were brilliant at moving between the styles, with a mix of indie, chart pop,classics and a little bit of cheese thrown in. Our guests were dancing all night!
We were keen for a certain style of photography that was light and delicate. We found Carn Patrick and are so pleased that we did! As well as being a lovely man, he was exceptionally competent and efficient, and we can't recommend him enough.
My maid of honour Carmen is a talented musician and performed with another singer during the signing of the register, as well as whenwe exited the ceremony room. Carmen later performed other songs in the Great Barn as the evening guests arrived, which was brilliant.

Giving our guests sparklers worked really well in the evening. We hadn't expected him to, but Carn essentially coordinated the entire wedding party for those shots, and they capture the warmth of the day.
