It's rustic romance

Aldwick Estate provided the beautiful backdrop for Vicki and Luke's celebration.

Vicki and Luke Haddow started out as mates. After a few months of chatting every day, they realised there was a stronger connection than just friendship. “I was living in Birmingham at the time, and Luke was in Bristol,” Vicki tells us. “We had a long-distance relationship for two years, but as soon as I finished university, I moved to be with him.”

Fast-forward four years, and the pair decided to go travelling around the United States. “Our second stop was New York,” Vicki remembers. “At sunset, we went for a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, where Luke got down on one knee against a backdrop of the city's famous skyline.” The loved-up couple celebrated with champagne while they waited for their loved ones back home to wake up so they could share the news.

Back in the UK, Vicki and Luke set the date for 6th April, 2018, at Aldwick Estate. We caught up with the bride to find out how they planned their dream day…

I fell for the modern yet rustic feel, while Luke loved the bar area. We had family coming from across the UK, so the fact that everything was in one place was brilliant for us.

Luke's sister kindly made our delicious naked cake it was exactly what we wanted. It had three yummy tiers of carrot, lemon and Victoria sponge. Luke's brother also made a gluten-free option.

Our tables were named after places we visited in the United States, and the top table was called Brooklyn for obvious reasons! The place settings were funny Polaroid pictures of our guests.

Our centrepieces were a pretty vase and candles on a log slice, along with a bucket of drinks! We also had a LOVE sign for the dancefloor, which is something I've always wanted.

For our favours, we made a contribution to the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, as these are charities that are close to our hearts. Everyone received a pin badge, and we loved seeing people wear them throughout the night.

I didn't know what type of dress would suit me, so I tried on as many styles as possible so I could make an informed decision. I never thought I'd go for a strapless gown, but that's what suited me most; I felt curvaceous and beautiful. The dress had lots of detail, so I teamed it with a simple veil, hair vine and diamond jewellery

During the drinks reception, the waiting staff went around with fruit, flavoured syrups and bubbles so our loved ones could pimp their prosecco. It was fun trying out all the different options!

It was the best day of my life, and I didn't stop smiling once especially when we saw each other for the first time in the ceremony room. Luke was nervous for his speech, but as soon as that was over he could relax and enjoy every second with our friends and family.

We had a guitarist perform; the weather was lovely, and he created the perfect atmosphere to enjoy drinks outside. We also had a photo booth, which was something I really wanted but couldn't stretch the budget to, so my brother booked it for us. Come the evening, we celebrated in style, with a great DJ playing a mix of party tunes.

The staff at Aldwick Estate went above and beyond for us; anything we wanted, they made sure we had it. I was overwhelmed by how brilliant they were.
