Love is in the air

Emily and Joseph celebrate their big day with a burst of colour and a splash of fun

Emily and Joseph first discovered each other on a dating website and after Joseph plucked up the courage to message Emily their journey together began. Emily says, "We had our first date in a local pub, where Jo resoundingly kicked my butt at snakes and ladders! After a series of surprise dates, including pirate miniature golf and a trip to see a pretty questionable play, we were inseparable." From this moment the rest was history, leaving Joseph to ask Emily a very important question.

In the year of 2016, he surprised Emily with a trip to Bath for Christmas. "I love the city, having lived there for five years as a student, we make regular trips back to visit friends and soak up some Georgian architecture," says Emily. After a lovely weekend catching up with loved ones, the couple visited a Thermae Spa where they had a private cross bath. "In the spa were candles, champagne, the gorgeous clear night sky, and a beautiful sapphire ring hidden in a towel. It was a complete surprise, and I said yes naturally!"

Here Emily tells us more about their day...

Love is in the air: Image 1 We're slightly famed amongst our family and friends for throwing massive back garden barbecue parties every summer. We wanted to emulate that relaxed, party vibe with the wedding and immediately fell in love with the outside space at Crockwell for this exact reason!

We're also TV/film nerds,so there were lots of nods to our favourite films and shows throughout the wedding. We had quotes from the Princess Bride in the order of ceremony and tables named after famous fictional duos. Quotes about love from our favourite shows were put on the tables.

The briefing we gave for the colour scheme and flowers was bright and happy. Our amazing stylist Ellie from Rose & Dandy completely ran with this and the day was filled with beautiful flowers and an explosion of colour!

Gone were the traditions of the first dance, being given away and throwing the bouquet, replaced instead with impromptu space hopper racing during the wedding breakfast!

Jo wore a three-piece blue suit, accompanied by a flower tie and pocket square from Moss Bross. The cufflinks were a gift from me on our fifth anniversary, three months before the wedding and engraved with our wedding date on the reverse.

Love is in the air: Image 4 A similar brief to our baker, who generated our flower, macaron and bright pink drip cake of dreams, all topped off with asuitably dressed dinosaur bride and groom.

The dress was Judith by Watters,bought from the amazing Tilly Trotter's Brides in Leamington Spa.The owner Sian, has created the most amazing piece of bridal heaven here and was the only dress shop I visited where I felt both special but also completely comfortable.

This was the only dress where I felt the best possible version of myself and was so beautiful and simple. It required very little accessorising, a beautiful handmade dried flower vine, simple flower earrings and emerald Dorothy shoes completed my look.

Our gorgeous niece Eva served as ourflowergirl, wearing a beautiful pinkdress with sparkly gold pumps and aflower crown to match our hair vines.

I've been a bridesmaid to three of mybest friends over the years (all of whomreturned the favour for me) and eachof them had worn Irregular Choiceshoes on their big day. It was atradition I simply had to continue.

Love is in the air: Image 7 The bridesmaids wore the same satin skirt but in a range of colours to reflect the rainbow colour scheme. Wanting them to feel as comfortable as possible, I allowed them to pick their own tops to express some of their sense of identity.

We hired an air hockey table, table football and traditional Northamptonshire skittles on the bigday. The guests had to be prized away when the hiring company came to collect them at the end of the night. Money well spent!

Jo beamed all day,and his parents still poke fun at his massive grin in all of the photos.

Our photo booth and guest book was also a big hit!

It was a day filled with happiness, love and laughter, and was everything we could have dreamed of.

Love is in the air: Image 10 The ceremony was our favourite part! Weinvolved our beloved friends and familyas much as we could, with readings andmusic which truly meant something to us.

We're lucky enough to have some very talented friends,with one of my bridesmaids and her husband singing a selection of songs during the signing of the register. Also, one of the groomsmen played acoustic guitar whilst the guests entered.

If you can, hire a stylist! It gave me the chance to spend the day before the wedding having lunch with my bridesmaids and the day after reminiscing with my new husband. Set-up and take-down of the venue were completely taken care of and we could enjoy our wedded bliss.Highly recommended!
