How to nail your bridesmaid gifts

Posted by Danielle Harvey on 10 July 2023

bride and bridesmaids Finding that perfect thank you gift for your bridesmaids can be a mind boggling task. How can you truly thank them for supporting you on your big day?

New research* from gifting experts at Getting Personal shows that apart from our parents, friends are the hardest people to shop for with one in seven (15%) admitting they struggle.

To help brides give envy-inducing thank you gifts gifting expert at Getting Personal, Tara Butler, shares eight tips for figuring out what they really want... without having to ask.

See what they engage with on social media
"Check to see who they follow on their social media - this could be Instagram, TikTok or even Facebook but it should give you a good idea of the type of brands they like or products they could be interested in. If they are a big social media user they might have even liked or commented on some posts. Keep an eye out for competitions they might have entered. There's a good chance they'd love to receive similar products to the prize."

Check what items they have liked or have saved on Vinted, Depop, or even eBay
"The rise in popularity of circular fashion and resale platforms has proven great for present inspiration. If they are an active user of these sites you should be able to see the types of products and brands they are lusting after so take note. Whether you choose to buy the item new or second hand is entirely up to you."

Find out what online publications or magazines they read
"Whether they look at publications online or in print, find out what they like to regularly read. You'll get a good idea of any hobbies they have and if you're lucky, the publications might have gift guides already published. Chances are these items might be on their wish list too."

Discover who their favourite influencers or celebrities are
"Take the time to find out if they have a celebrity or an influencer idol. For most of us, these people are aspirational so whether you take inspiration from an outfit an influencer has worn or buy a product that their favourite celebrity has featured in the advert of, start here for a good source of gift ideas."

Take a look at their pinned inspo on Pinterest
"Pinterest is the ultimate mood board for present inspiration so if they regularly use this platform then you have access to a wealth of originality. From outfit ideas to home accessories and even colour suggestions, if they've added an image they love to a recent board then you're on to a winner."

Keep a list of hints throughout the year
"This takes some organisation and pre-planning but taking the time to keep a list of ideas will mean you are prepared for anything when it comes to buying a gift. Perhaps they've lost a prized possession, paid someone a compliment or made the subtlest hint at liking something- make sure you take a note of it."

Have a snoop through their wardrobe
"This hack requires access to their wardrobe so if you are able to get there, have a snoop through the brands they are wearing, types of things they like to wear or even any gaps they might need filling. You'll get a good idea of how your gift could compliment or even add to whatever they already have, plus you'll know what their size is."

Browse their Google search history
"It might sound risky however if you are brave enough to do so, take a look through their Google searches. This isn't for the fainthearted...eeek... so do so at your own risk!"
