And it seems it’s not just a favourite with me, as it’s becoming an increasingly popular time of year to get married. So, what’s so great about these months when it comes to tying the knot? For a start, the temperature is a lot more favourable. Even though it’s still warm during September, the heat has a friendlier feel about it, rather than the oppressive temperatures of summer. Then, moving into October and November, we have the cosy atmosphere created by roaring fires and candlelight, along with the stunning natural backdrops as the colours start to change to rich shades of amber and gold. I adore the new, imaginative palettes couples are coming up with for their autumn nuptials. For 2026, the trend is moving away from predictable burnt orange and burgundy towards richer, more nuanced palettes featuring earthy neutrals, jewel tones and unexpected pops of colour. Browns have become a key feature rather than just an accent, while plum, olive and espresso is emerging as a standout combination. I hope you’ll find plenty of wedspiration in this issue, whatever time of year you’ve chosen for your wedding. As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! A safe space A wedding is one of life’s most treasured celebrations, bringing together generations of family and friends to create unforgettable memories. But for some guests, the excitement, noise, crowds and changing routines can quickly become overwhelming. Autism Support Allies provide a dedicated safe space with a calm, welcoming environment where anyone feeling overstimulated can take a moment to regulate, recharge and return to the celebration when they’re ready. Safe spaces are not just for autistic guests. They can support people with ADHD, sensory processing differences, anxiety, dementia, PTSD, young children and even elderly relatives who simply need a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle. Inclusion should never be an afterthought. By creating a space where every guest feels considered, valued and supported, couples send a powerful message: everyone belongs. The most memorable weddings are those where every guest has the opportunity to celebrate comfortably, confidently and without barriers. Sometimes, all someone needs is an ally. Find out more at autismsupportallies.co.uk Sustainable spa Titanic Spa, the UK’s first purpose-built eco spa, has further strengthened its sustainability credentials with a major upgrade to its existing solar energy infrastructure, investing in an enhanced solar photovoltaic system at its awardwinning West Yorkshire destination. The system is expected to generate 94.51 MWh of renewable electricity annually, significantly increasing the spa’s on-site renewable energy production. What’s more, in an exciting few months for the spa, it has also been named as a finalist in not one, but three categories at this year’s Good Spa Guide Awards – one of the UK’s most respected accolades in the spa and wellness industry. The luxury spa has been shortlisted for Best Resort Spa, Best Spa for Sustainability, and Best Spa in the North East. Ella’s new service transforms bouquets into original works of art, either painted live during the wedding or created afterwards from photographs. Rather than preserving the flowers themselves, each painting captures the colours, movement and memories behind them, creating a piece that can be enjoyed long after the celebrations are over. Alongside original bouquet paintings, couples can also commission matching anniversary prints, thank-you cards, and floral artwork inspired by their wedding flowers, creating a collection of keepsakes to enjoy for years to come. The Instagram effect ON WEDDING VENUES How social media is reshaping the industry In an era where a single photograph can reach millions of viewers within hours, wedding venues are experiencing a seismic shift in how they attract couples and showcase their spaces. Instagram has evolved from a simple photo-sharing app into the most powerful marketing tool the wedding industry has ever seen and it’s fundamentally changing what couples look for in a venue. We spoke with Nick from Country House Weddings (countryhouseweddings. co.uk) to explore how social media, particularly Instagram and TikTok is reshaping venue selection, design, and the entire wedding experience. THE RISE OF INSTAGRAM-WORTHY VENUES “Ten years ago, couples primarily chose venues based on capacity, location, and price,” explains Nick “Today, the first question whether said or not is really: ‘How Instagram-worthy is it?’. The visual appeal of a space has become just as important, and sometimes more important than traditional practical considerations.” This shift reflects a broader change in how couples approach their weddings. The ceremony and reception are no longer private family affairs but shareable content that will be viewed, liked, and commented on by hundreds to thousands of people. As a result, venues with distinctive architectural features, dramatic backdrops, and photogenic details have seen demand skyrocket. “Country houses, venues with statement staircases, and spaces with abundant natural light are particularly popular,” Nick notes. “These environments photograph beautifully and provide those ‘wow’ moments that translate perfectly to social media, without overwhelming the couple.” HOW VENUES ARE ADAPTING TO INSTAGRAM CULTURE Smart venue owners are responding to this Instagram-driven demand by strategically enhancing their spaces with social media in mind. According to Nick, this goes far beyond simply having pretty spaces. “To accommodate, many spaces have invested in designated ‘photo opportunities’ throughout the properties,” he explains. “This might be a swing hanging from an ancient oak tree or a flower wall that’s refreshed seasonally. These aren’t just decorative, rather they’re carefully designed Instagram moments that if well done, look completely natural and spontaneous.” THE POWER OF USER-GENERATED CONTENT Perhaps the most significant impact of Images sourced from unsplash.com 14

Instagram on wedding venues is the rise of user-generated content as a marketing powerhouse. Traditional advertising has been largely replaced by the authentic images newlyweds share from their big- day celebrations. “When a couple posts photos from their wedding and tags our venue, they’re essentially providing a testimonial to their entire network,” says Nick. “That organic reach is invaluable. We’ve had couples book with us purely because they saw a friend’s wedding photos on Instagram and fell in love with the space.” Many venues now actively encourage this user-generated content by creating unique hashtags, offering incentives for tagging the venue, and even featuring couples’ photos on their official accounts. This creates a symbiotic relationship: couples get the pleasure of being featured on a popular wedding venue account, while venues benefit from fresh, authentic content that resonates with prospective couples. THE PRESSURE TO PERFORM: WHEN INSTAGRAM EXPECTATIONS MEET REALITY While Instagram has created tremendous opportunities for venues, it has also introduced new challenges and pressures. Nick is candid about the potential downsides. “We’ve noticed that some couples spend so much time planning for the perfect Instagram shots that they forget to actually enjoy their wedding,” he observes. “There’s pressure to recreate specific aesthetics they’ve seen online, sometimes at the expense of what they genuinely want or what works best for their celebration.” “Our role has evolved to include managing these expectations,” Nick explains. “We show couples how to achieve beautiful photos while maintaining authenticity and ensuring they don’t sacrifice the experience for the content.” SEASONAL AESTHETICS AND TRENDING STYLES Instagram has dramatically accelerated the pace of wedding trend cycles. Styles that once remained popular for years now shift seasonally, driven by what’s currently performing well on social media. “We’ve seen rustic barn weddings give way to minimalist industrial spaces, which then evolved into romantic garden parties, and now we’re in an era of maximalist, moody aesthetics,” notes Nick. “Each shift is directly traceable to what’s trending on Instagram and other visual platforms.” The most successful venues, according to Nick, are those with classic, versatile spaces that can be dressed to match current trends rather than those locked into a specific style. THE DEMOCRATISATION OF VENUE DISCOVERY On the positive side, Instagram has democratised venue discovery in ways that benefit both couples and venues. Previously, couples typically found venues through traditional advertising, wedding fairs, or word-of-mouth recommendations, which heavily favoured established venues with large marketing budgets. “Instagram has levelled the playing field,” says Nick. “A smaller, boutique venue with beautiful spaces and strong visual content can now compete with major established venues.” SOCIAL MEDIA 15

VIRTUAL VENUE TOURS AND DIGITALFIRST EXPERIENCES Instagram has also transformed how couples initially explore venues. The traditional approach of booking in-person tours of multiple locations has been supplemented and sometimes replaced by digital discovery. “Couples now typically do extensive Instagram research before even contacting us,” Nick explains. “They’ve already ‘experienced’ the venue through our feed, stories, highlights, and reels. By the time they reach out, they have a clear vision of whether our space fits their aesthetic.” It also requires savvy venues to keep their social media game strong and vibrant. THE ECONOMICS OF INSTAGRAMDRIVEN DEMAND The Instagram effect has had tangible economic impacts on wedding venues. Properties that successfully leverage social media have seen significant increases in booking inquiries. This creates a new challenge: venues must continuously invest in creating fresh, engaging content to maintain visibility in Instagram’s algorithm-driven environment, requiring ongoing resources for photography, content creation, and social media management. INFLUENCER WEDDINGS AND ASPIRATIONAL CONTENT The rise of influencer culture has created a new category of high-profile weddings that serve as both personal celebrations and branded content opportunities. For venues, hosting an influencer wedding can provide unprecedented exposure. “When we host a wedding for a couple with a significant social media following, we know that kind of exposure would cost a fortune in traditional advertising. Some venues even offer discounted rates to influencers specifically for this marketing.” But this dynamic also raises questions about authenticity and the commercialisation of weddings. The line between personal celebration and content creation becomes blurred when sponsors, product placements, and promotional partnerships enter the picture. LOOKING AHEAD: THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND VENUES As social media continues to evolve, Nick anticipates further changes in how venues market themselves and what couples prioritise. “We’re already seeing a shift toward video content with the rise of TikTok and Instagram reels,” he notes. “Venues need to think beyond static images and consider how their spaces translate to short-form video. We’re also noticing a counter-movement of couples who want ‘unplugged’ weddings where guests aren’t constantly on their phones. The pendulum may swing back toward more private, intimate celebrations.” Nick also predicts that virtual and augmented reality tools will become more sophisticated, potentially allowing couples to virtually ‘walk through’ venue spaces and visualise their weddings before booking. This could further reduce the need for in-person venue visits while raising expectations for accessible digital presentation. FINDING BALANCE IN THE DIGITAL AGE “Instagram has fundamentally transformed the wedding venue industry, mostly for the better,” concludes Nick. “The most successful weddings are those where couples use Instagram for inspiration and venue discovery but ultimately make choices based on what feels right for them. A beautiful Instagram feed is wonderful, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of genuine connection, personal meaning, or the joy of being present in your own celebration.” 16

EXPLOSION Colour Tasha and Matt’s vibrant colour palette brought an atmosphere of celebration, love and fun to their wedding day Images courtesy of Gabriela’s Photography and Film Tasha and Matt met while working together at the gym, and their romance eventually led to a dream proposal on a private beach in Bali. With such a memorable engagement, it was only fitting that they wanted a wedding that felt every bit as personal and unforgettable. Winning the use of The Victoria Sheffield in a competition made their dream venue a reality. “I was already in love with it,” Tasha says. “I love the city’s industrial vibe, as well as the vintage feel of The Victoria – the light, the beams, the wood.” The couple describe their theme as “a colour explosion”! The palette included teal, royal blue, bright pink, orange, mustard yellow and purple. “I know it sounds a lot, but paired with the wooden accents and the disco balls, it was perfect,” Tasha explains. The venue was certainly packed with joy and fun as a result. Every detail reflected the couple’s fun-loving personalities. Vibrant flowers brought the scene to life, accented with streamers and disco balls. The bride styled much of the venue herself and also designed the stationery. The handcrafted elements and thoughtful styling ensured guests were surrounded by personal touches from the moment they arrived. She did, however, draft in the services of an illustrator, who drew portraits of each guest for the table plan. As a wedding favour, the couple handed out little thankyou cards featuring the personalised illustrations, which was a sweet touch. Food and, in particular, cake was a huge part of the day. Sharing a hearty feast-style wedding breakfast of roast chicken and potatoes perfectly suited the relaxed, celebratory atmosphere, encouraging guests to chat, laugh and enjoy the occasion together. The late-night pork butties were a welcome treat, fuelling an evening spent on the dance floor. Tasha was a vision in her gown, All Who Wander. “When I first saw the dress, it reminded me of my nan’s tablecloth,” she laughs. “We shared so many memories around her table and the lace reminded me of those times.” Matt wore a blue velvet tux jacket with black skinny trousers. His groomsmen were dressed to match him, except for their shoes, which were in a contrasting colour. The bridesmaids, meanwhile, wore a rainbow of hues to complement the wedding’s palette. The evening’s entertainment sounds like a riot! The couple enlisted the services of a local DJ who packed the dance floor and was popular with everyone. There was also a cake parade (which sounds like our kind of parade)! Tasha and her bridesmaids entertained guests with a rip-roaring tribute to Mamma Mia. For Tasha, the highlight of the day was the ceremony led by their celebrant, with the glorious weather an added bonus. Tasha and Matt certainly created the day of their dreams, reflecting their personalities and crafting an atmosphere of joy and unbridled fun, befitting such a celebration. “Do it all,” the bride recommends. “Do everything you want to do, go all out. Add the personal touches and make it your day!” REAL WEDDINGS 19

Young hearts, lasting love Having first met at high school, Rachael and Harry’s beautiful Bowcliffe Hall wedding celebrated a love story years in the making Images courtesy of Lucy Sayers Photo + Film 24

REAL WEDDINGS 25

Rachael and Harry met on the first day of high school. They started out as friends and began dating when they were 13. “Bar the odd Ross and Rachel from Friends moment, we’ve been growing up together ever since,” Rachael says. Harry proposed to Rachael as they watched the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower from a quiet side street in Paris. Rachael, who had always dreamed of a romantic gesture without a spectacle, almost accidentally foiled his attempts several times when she dragged him (and his backpack containing the ring) on the rollercoasters at Disneyland Paris and felt too tired on the first two nights to stay up to see the lights. For Rachael and Harry, everything about Bowcliffe Hall felt right: “The elegant building, the statues and signs around the grounds that offered a classy feeling with personality, and the gardens that felt perfect for photos.” When they narrowed their shortlist to two venues, it was actually the Bowcliffe Hall staff who tipped the balance for them. “They were so friendly and really cared about us and making our wedding day special,” Rachael remembers. As the venue’s decor already featured so many beautiful colours, the couple decided to enhance 26

these using a predominantly white palette with blue and pink highlights for an elegant feel. They enlisted the help of venue styling company Limelight Wedding Emporium to bring the venue to life with the elements they wanted. The couple opted for faux flower trees placed at the end of the aisle and at the bottom of the stairs, along with white chair sashes. They utilised the bridesmaids’ bouquets as centrepieces for half the tables with candelabras and bud vases adorning the rest. Meanwhile, the focal floral display from the signing table doubled up as the top table arrangement. “We were so well looked after with food and drink throughout the day,” Rachael shares. “This was fantastic because I’m a hangry person and Harry has a few allergies.” The wedding party was served pastries in the morning while they got ready and the guests enjoyed the canapés during the drinks reception. The three-course wedding breakfast, featuring a lamb roast, was followed later in the evening with fancy hot dogs and fried chicken cones. “Nobody went hungry, and the team was fantastic at catering for dietary requirements,” Rachael says. The bride wore an Essense of Australia gown with custom sleeves. She’d gone along to a sample sale, just out of curiosity, and ended up walking away with the one! She knew she wanted a fairly simple, princess-style dress based on her usual style, and this was just the elevated version she was looking for. The groom and his party all wore matching tuxedos. Meanwhile, the bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous satin twist dresses with mismatched white heels. A live violinist played as the bride and bridesmaids walked down the aisle and stayed for cocktail hour. “She made so many classics sound elegant and beautiful,” Rachael remembers. The couple look back most fondly on the moments they didn’t plan or predict, such as stealing five minutes together after the photos and looking out from the top table to see everyone they love in one room. Having now been there and done that, Rachael has some sound advice for soon-to-be-weds: “You’ll be given so much conflicting advice, but the most important thing is to figure out your budget, what you both want and what your priorities are, then run with it. Nobody who loves you should criticise your choice. Secondly, worry less and enjoy the engagement and planning process. By the time you’re standing at the end of the aisle you’ll no longer care which shade of napkin you picked!” REAL WEDDINGS 27

Drawing on two different sides of Emily Brontë’s iconic Yorkshire-set novel Wuthering Heights, these styled shoots reimagine the classic tale through two strikingly different bridal aesthetics Images courtesy of Garett Wilde Photography TWO WEDDINGS With more than 25 years in the wedding industry under her belt, bridal hair stylist Sarah Goodbarn, otherwise known as Bridal Hair by Bronte, set out to create a duo of contrasting shoots, celebrating her love for creating hair that feels soft, romantic and effortlessly beautiful, yet still expressive and versatile. “I’ve always been inspired by Wuthering Heights,” Sarah says. “I wanted to translate the wild landscapes, muted tones, and a sense of untamed romance into a modern bridal setting.” Part one embraces the natural, windswept aesthetic of the iconic novel, where the hair feels lived-in. Soft movement, delicate texture and understated elegance ensure the styles don’t feel overly structured. Meanwhile, the shoot’s palette of warm golds, soft beiges, antique rose pinks, and deep, earthy wood tones echo the surrounding landscape, creating a cohesive, dreamlike softness. Photographer Garett Wilde brings an artistic depth to the imagery, capturing light in a painterly way, while Moorland Blooms perfectly interpreted the brief with textured florals that enhance the Wuthering Heights-inspired atmosphere. In contrast, part two, captured at Allerton Castle, carries the same romantic foundation but explores a more regal, gothic and modern direction. The setting naturally called for a more refined aesthetic, structured yet soft, with elegant, sculpted hair that complements the architectural backdrop. “The look feels more polished and poised, thanks to our model’s excellent ability to create beautiful shapes, complemented by a timeless gown provided by Peggy Bridal,” Sarah says. “The dress’s subtle detailing adds a sense of quiet drama and timeless sophistication.” Together, the two shoots demonstrate the versatility of bridal hair, moving from soft, wild romance to elevated, contemporary elegance while remaining rooted in a signature style that showcases texture, femininity and individuality. 34

The end OF PERFECT We explore how couples are falling out of love with perfection and choosing documentary wedding photography For more than a decade, as social media grew in popularity and became increasingly ingrained in our lives, so too did the desire for polished, Insta-worthy wedding shots. The ultimate goal was to secure images that belonged on the front cover of a luxury magazine. But rather than choosing between polished portraits and authentic moments, today’s couples increasingly want both. They’re looking for photographers who’ll capture their wedding day as it unfolds, rather than a series of carefully staged moments. The rise of documentary photography reflects a need for authenticity and presence, going hand-in-hand with the trend for ultra-personalised big days. Today, the perfect wedding album might include a tear-streaked face, hilarity on the dance floor or the youngest guests running with abandon through the venue’s grounds. FROM PINTEREST TO PRESENCE Social media and its resulting habit of doom-scrolling has caused many to reach the point of perfection fatigue. Today’s couples have grown up exposed to an endless parade of highly curated content from lifestyle to fashion, and of course weddings. Whereas the previous generation might have envisioned their wedding day in the form of scrapbooks, sketches and marked-up magazines, Gen Z-ers naturally gravitate to Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok for their wedspiration. After years spent in the pursuit of perfection, perhaps the pandemic and months spent in isolation reminded us of what matters most. When the wedding industry emerged from lockdown, the trend for more intimate, meaningful wedding days quickly became prevalent, and in the years that followed, this beating heart has remained even though we’re seeing guest numbers begin to grow once more. To reflect these personalised celebrations, there’s a growing demand for photography that showcases candid storytelling, genuine emotion and real moments. A recurring theme we see among our real wedding couples is that many have no desire to spend the moments following their ceremony posing for the camera with an endless parade of carefully planned guest groups. No, they’re far keener to get the party started, and why not? With a documentary photographer at the helm, there’s no need to fear a lack of captured memories of your nearest and dearest. Seeing themselves more as observers, they shoot moments of you and your guests as they unfold. It’s their job to be in the right place at the right time, with the camera pointing in the unsplash.com@jakobowens 38

right direction, to capture every sign of emotion from the key highlights to the intimate moments you missed on the day. All the while, you’re free to be fully present and experience the allimportant day. For many, these are the images that pack the biggest emotional punch, immortalising genuine reactions in a moment that’s fleeting. They’re the ones you’ll look back at in years to come with a genuine smile on your face, not necessarily the ones where you’re all grinning stiffly for the camera. THERE’S BEAUTY IN REALITY Capturing reality doesn’t mean ugly photos! Today’s couples want authenticity that’s beautiful. Documentary photography is a skill, carefully honed over many years and many weddings. It’s knowing where to be at precisely the right moment, shooting it in a split second, and delivering a resulting image that’s as stunning as it is raw. These photographers are truly talented folk. One of the most interesting contradictions in all of this is that documentary photography is often carefully crafted to look effortless. Most documentary photographers today find themselves in demand for full day coverage, with only a short spell during the drinks reception spent on an editorial-style couple shoot. Formal group shots are almost entirely out. So, the resulting album offers the perfect blend of stunning luxury couple images, ready for the wall, along with a story of the day as it unfolded.
