New beginnings in North Yorkshire Editor Kelly Andrews experiences North Yorkshire’s newest luxury, nature-inspired retreat – Sakura Spa Gisborough Hall in North Yorkshire has officially unveiled its highly anticipated Sakura Spa, and our editor, Kelly Andrews, was lucky enough to be present at the exclusive launch event to witness this new chapter for the luxury country house hotel’s wellness offering. Read on as she tells us more. After an opening speech from Lord Gisborough and a signature Sakura Spritz, I was super-excited to be one of the first in line for a tour of the new nature-inspired spa. Designed as a peaceful sanctuary inspired by the beauty of the natural world, Sakura Spa (meaning cherry blossom in Japanese, a symbol of new beginnings) combines contemporary wellness facilities with tranquil woodland surroundings, creating a destination where guests can relax, restore and reconnect. It’s a dream for a pre- or post-wedding escape, allowing you to recharge and take a break together, or for gathering your girls for a tranquil hen getaway and spending quality time together. We took a break from exploring for a sound bath experience, complete with a heated eye mask, which would be wonderful for your group. The beautiful spa garden features a range of thermal experiences, including an outdoor vitality pool overlooking the woodland, which I would soon discover was my favourite spot. The Finnish sauna, herbal sauna, salt steam room and invigorating cold plunge experience take visitors on a wellbeing journey, which I availed myself of several times during my Sunrise Retreat the next morning, between relaxing with my book in one of the dedicated areas on the deck. Reclining on a circular, cushioned lounger in my dressing gown sipping a morning latte and looking out over the stunning countryside the day after the launch event was an experience I hope to return to very soon! I was treated to a facial during my Sunrise Retreat, which I can honestly say was one of the best I’ve had, and a treatment I can heartily recommend. My therapist, Dani, had a magic touch, revitalising my skin and giving me an incredible head, neck, shoulder and arm massage. My dehydrated skin was brought back to life and I was given an Elemis product recommendation to keep it that way once I’d left. Why not book the couples’ treatment room for the two of you? Complementing the spa experience is Koyo Restaurant, where I dined in the company of industry colleagues the evening of the launch. Named after the Japanese word for autumn leaves, it’s inspired by Japan’s tradition of appreciating the changing seasons. The menu features fresh seasonal salads, nourishing brunch dishes, wholesome light meals, revitalising juices and wellness drinks. I thoroughly enjoyed my flavoursome meal of ramen followed by a fruity Eton mess.
