I’m obsessed with the stunning earthy colour palette of this elegantly rustic shoot at Southlands Barn. cwe COUNTY WEDDING EVENTS To quote one of my favourite movies, Miss Congeniality, and Rhode Island’s Cheryl, when asked to describe her perfect date: “I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.” While hilarious in the context of the film, I do have to agree with her, because she’s perfectly described how I’ve always felt about spring. Anyone who knows me is well aware that I hate, hate, hate hot weather; and while I love the winter, the dark nights can get you down. So, for me spring is the ideal happy medium: not too hot, not too cold. And that’s before we even get started on everything else it brings such as the beauty of new life and the joy of Easter. In short, what a wonderful time of year for a wedding! We’re particularly blessed in Britain with definition in our seasons so we get to experience spring in all it’s glory where so many countries around the world don’t get to enjoy its subtleties in quite the same way. This is when British blooms come into their own. Think of the oh-so on trend loose wildflower style of bouquet bursting with anemones, tulips, sweet peas, narcissi and ranuculus, not forgetting the eternally popular wedding flower, peonies. Aisle runners featuring the same create the ambience of walking barefoot through a meadow and when transferred to the reception tables they create that wonderful soft English country garden feel. Why not take inspiration for your wedding palette from the hues found in nature throughout the spring months? Lemon, blush, peach, lavender, sage green... the list goes on. What’s more, this year’s Pantone colour of the year Viva Magenta is so versatile it works beautifully alongside pastels as a bold accent. I could go on, but I’ll leave it to the local professionals as they share their springtime wedding ideas over in Hot Topic from page 67. Plus, when I think of spring weddings, I think of an overabundance of seasonal flowers, and that’s just what we’ve got for you in one of our incredible styled shoots for you this issue starting over on page 53, so dive in. Discover more at Nearlywed WINNING STREAK Field Place Manor House & Barns in Worthing has recently won its third successive national accolade at the 2023 Wedding Industry Awards. The prestigious awards are held annually in celebration of the most talented and hard-working suppliers in the industry. In November 2022, Field Place won the South East regional award for Best Events Team, which secured them a place at the national finals in January 2023. The winners are voted for by couples married during October 2021 and October 2022 at the nominated venues; their scoring and feedback is then passed on to a judging panel who decide who is to receive the accolades. This year, no fewer than 1,300 suppliers entered and 26,543 couples had their say, with 135 industry experts deliberating over the submissions. Amanda Millis, weddings and events manager at Field Place Manor House & Barns said, “We’re over the moon to have won a national title for the third time, and for three different categories. This award is special to us as we really do work hard to give our couples the wedding of their dreams.” Find out more about hosting your big day at Field Place at CHALK AND CHEESE Wiston Estate has announced that critically acclaimed chef Tom Kemble has joined the team at Chalk Restaurant as executive chef, bringing more than 15 years of experience at some of the world’s most prestigious restaurants to West Sussex. Formerly head chef at Bonhams Restaurant, which he led to earn a Michelin star within seven months of opening, Tom brings his precise cooking style, ingredient-led approach and dedication to celebrating local produce to Chalk. Located on the Wiston Estate’s North Farm winery site, 122-cover restaurant Chalk opened in December 2021 and draws its name from the soft white limestone that the vineyard sits on, which gives its award-winning wines their distinctive, terroir-driven profile. The eatery occupies a renovated 18thcentury threshing barn, which has been thoughtfully restored to create a warm and welcoming space. Considered yet approachable, the Chalk menu celebrates the nature, heritage and community of the Estate, using ingredients from its allotment-style walled garden and neighbouring artisan suppliers. Meats such as venison, Herdwick lamb, pheasant and White Park beef are all sourced from the Estate, while the likes of Heritage pumpkin, beetroots, Dazzling Blue kale and Hinnonmaki gooseberry are grown in the walled garden. SPRING IS IN THE AIR Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate has announced its wedding services for 2023. The venue, located near Horsham in West Sussex in an area of outstanding natural beauty, offers sublime views across the 500-acre Estate. The venue has benefited from investment in new facilities by its owners, the Streeter family, of late. The 17th-century mansion house features original fireplaces, wooden beam ceilings and ornate chandeliers, and there are two function rooms licensed for wedding ceremonies. Goldings and the Latilla Campbell Suite have a capacity of 30 to 110 guests, as well as extensive outside terraces for drinks receptions for up to 200 loved ones. This year’s packages see the venue offering a choice of set threecourse wedding breakfast options for 60 guests from £7,250 including VAT and service charges. This includes a half-bottle per person of award-winning Benguela Cove wine and a glass of Cuvée58 sparkling wine for the toast, both from the owner’s South African vineyards. There’s also a choice of round or long tables, with white table linen and limewash Chiavari chairs. The Estate also offers the support of an experienced wedding coordinator to help with planning and taking care of all on-the-day arrangements. Wedding events manager Jo Chellingworth shared some of her top planning tips with us: “Figure out your vision for the day. Whether you want it to be small and intimate or big and lavish, you should decide exactly what kind of vibe you want right from the start. That way, when it comes to actually planning elements such as invitations, catering and décor, you can focus on making sure those aspects match up with your vision,” She goes on to say, “Start early! You’ll be surprised at how much time you need to plan your dream wedding, so the earlier you begin, the better. Make sure you have a budget in place before you start booking the venue and getting quotes from suppliers. “Write everything down. Keep a notebook with your ideas and plans, so that you don’t forget anything important. Make a list of everything you need to do, and try to focus on one task at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed by the details: with the help of the wedding venue’s event team and suppliers, the details will take care of themselves!” Find out more at Mannings Heath at WINE AND DINE Renowned Sussex vineyard, Tinwood Estate, has recently opened a new onsite restaurant. Serving lunch every day and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, there are 50 covers in the restaurant and picnic baskets supplied for those days when nothing could be better than sitting among the vines with delicious food and sparkling wine. The new restaurant is situated in the existing picturesque tasting room near Chichester, which boasts a vast south-facing terrace overlooking the vines. Serving modern British tapas using locally-sourced produce including fish, meat and vegetables, its menu will constantly change and evolve according to what’s in season, available and tasting best. Choose three or four small plates, which will of course match your wines, and you can enjoy your food while having a tutored wine tasting, at your own leisure, or from a private spot among the vines. YchaourtoS... ussex Wedding ts LAURA HEDGER FROM ONE MOMENT IN TIME BRIDAL BOUTIQUE Being a curvy lady herself, Laura found shopping for wedding dresses to be a stressful experience. It’s often the case that boutiques only carry one or two sample sizes in each dress, so it can be difficult to get a good feel for your final big-day look if what's in store isn't close to your own usual size. So, she decided to change all of that and opened her own boutique, One Moment In Time, stocking each sample gown in sizes 8 to 30, so there really is something for everyone. “I feel passionate about making sure every bride feels amazing, no matter what their size,” Laura says. We chatted to her recently about everything from shopping sustainably to dealing with lack of body confidence. Click play or scan the QR code to see the full interview. Matt says, “I’m a live artist myself, and have been around the block a few times. I’ve been playing for more than 25 years, with experience of the pub circuit on the south coast, as well as playing in function bands all over the South of England. With this in mind, I’ve spent a fair bit of time looking for gigs for myself, and now look forward to doing the same for our roster.” RRS owner, Rose-Ann Raymond-Silvester says, “We as a company have had the privilege of being part of a lot of people’s special days and we look forward to seeing many more beautiful couples get married, as we help to make the memories that count.” Discover more about how RRS can help you plan your wedding entertainment at 10

As you step into this walled garden, the aisle leads you into what feels like a secret space, where you’re surrounded by shrubs and flower beds, luscious green lawns and a characterful wooden arbour. The Barn offers space for 80 seated and 100 standing guests to witness you say your vows. It’s a versatile space and the perfect solution if the weather is less favourable. THE CELEBRATIONS Following the ceremony, a 40-metre long pergola adorned in wisteria, roses, clematis and grape vines leads you through to the Arena for your wedding breakfast and evening reception, where you can be joined by 150 to 200 loved ones. Here, you’ll find the venue’s large marquee, fullylined with ivory drapes and lit by chandeliers and hundreds of fairylights. The area around it measures more than 1,000 square metres, so there’s ample room for even more entertainment like giant garden games and a mobile bar or caterer. Alternatively, The Barn can also play host to your celebrations with 80 seated and 150 standing with the additional enclosed garden. It’s equipped with tables, chairs, a kitchenette and its own toilet facilities. When it comes to dining, you can book a spit roast from The Walled Garden Café, an American-themed meal from Smith and Western restaurant or an all-vegan menu from the Lakeside Café. That being said, you’re still welcome to bring your own caterer in if you prefer. 20
