Your Sussex Wedding - April/May 2023 (Issue 102)

Jennifer continues, “Make sure the car service you’re booking is chauffeur driven and appropriately insured. A chauffeur gives you the peace of mind of having an experienced driver behind the wheel.” GET CREATIVE Just as you would any element of your day, you can look for transport to fit your personalities as well as your wedding’s vibe. For rustic nuptials, think super-cool VW Campervans; for a vintage feel consider a Rolls Royce; or for a touch of the traditional and classic opt for a sleek, modern Mercedes. ALL ABOARD! Have a think about who you need to provide transport for. While this might largely depend on your budget, you may want to give a thought to your guests if your ceremony and reception are some distance apart, or if the venue is particularly difficult to reach. If you’re asking your loved ones to make a tricky journey, you might want to lend them a hand. WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN? “Factors such as the size of your wedding party, where people are coming from and where they’re staying will determine how many cars you’ll need,” Jennifer tells us. “The bridesmaids and mother-of-the-bride will usually travel together, and don’t forget the groom and best man – they’ll need transport too! “Traditionally, the bride rides in the bridal car with her father, or whoever will be walking her down the aisle. Then, following the ceremony, the newlyweds will use this vehicle to travel to the reception venue if it’s at a different location. It’s best not to precede your guests, so you could stop for a nice glass of bubbly or some photos on the way. If the whole day is taking place at the same venue, a trip in a car for you both creates a natural break in proceedings and offers you some alone time. ” Think about your budget and ask your prospective suppliers what they’d recommend. Some may be able to make repeat journeys to come back for different members of the wedding party, others may suggest you book multiple vehicles if this isn’t practical. To save money you could hire one vehicle for the bride, later for the newlyweds, and book taxis for your best guys and girls. WHEN TO BOOK “Sooner rather than later,” Jennifer says. “With most car companies being booked up to a year or even two in advance, you don’t want to miss out on your preferred option.” Remember, some suppliers will only have one vehicle, their pride and joy, and can only be in one place at one time so secure your date to avoid disappointment. DRESSED TO IMPRESS “Most car providers are happy to decorate their vehicles in your preferred ribbon or tulle colours, some will even decorate with flowers,” Jennifer explains. “White is the traditional colour for the bridal car and you can add to this with colours from your palette. Bear in mind that some photographers will actually prefer a wedding car with a bit of colour as it will show off your dress to its best advantage.” It’s also worth enquiring about the chauffeur’s attire! You don’t want anyone letting the side down, and full livery looks oh-so smart. SNAP HAPPY You’ve devoted as much care and attention to choosing your transport as to any other element of your day, so don’t miss out on capturing those all-important photographs. When booking, make sure you’ve allocated time for this. If your ceremony and reception are at the same venue, why not ask if you can take a little trip together just the two of you, after the “I dos.” This time to soak up those first few moments as newlyweds will be precious and memorable. Plus, if you can bring your photographer along, there’ll be opportunities to get some couple shots at some fabulous locations along the way. SURPRISE! Looking for an extra special gift for your spouse-to-be and their party on the morning of the wedding? A sports car to get them to the ceremony on time will certainly be one to remember for the motoring enthusiast!
