The latest news from around both counties COTSWOLDS’ HOTTEST NEWWEDDING VENUE OPENS ITS DOORS Tucked away amidst beautiful private grounds in the heart of the sleepy Cotswold village of Ewen is Water’s Edge, the hottest new wedding and party venue on the Cotswold scene that launched in December 2022 in time for the 2023 celebration season. Purpose-built in the form of a contemporary Cotswold barn, this stunning exclusive-use venue marries modern style with plenty of traditional rustic charm - perfect for couples in search of low-key elegance for their big day. Launched by husband and wife team Steve and Emma Hewer, who have built Water’s Edge within their private grounds, the venue is the next step for the couple who have held summer season marquee weddings on the grounds for the past decade. The couple were passionate about using their event expertise to launch a permanent-structure venue that could enable couples and guests to enjoy the stunning surroundings year-round and so Water’s Edge was born.  THE PARTY SPACE Framing a pretty private courtyard garden, the venue aims to bring the outside in creating a relaxed vibe for guests. Spanning two stories in the form of an L-shaped barn, the main party space encompasses the barn’s entire ground floor, including a stunning dining room complete with a show-stopping open fireplace, a large bar and lounge area and an open theatre-style kitchen, where guests can watch the in-house chef team work their magic. Celebrations will begin in the barn’s bar area, where a stunning handmade panelled bar forms the room’s centrepiece. Farrow and Ball’s paint colour Hague Blue frames the walls, whilst sink-in statement sofas offer a comfy spot to relax with a tipple; from locally-sourced Cotswold ales and traditional bubbles to the venue’s delicious signature cocktails. Moving from the bar past an industrial-style open theatre kitchen - where guests can watch the chefs at work - the venue opens up into an elegant panelled dining room accommodating up to 110 guests seated. Effortlessly blending traditional Cotswold barn charm with a sultry, contemporary design palette, Farrow and Ball’s paint shade Stable Green decorates the walls while a large statement Cotswold stone fireplace offers a focal point for the room. Come sundown, the space transforms into a dancefloor complete with a top-of-the-range Martin Audio Speaker System; ideal for DJs and live bands alike.  THE ROOMS Upstairs, three bedrooms including a bridal suite, plus en-suite bathrooms offer couples the chance to extend their celebrations over two nights with their nearest and dearest. The showstopper of the venue is its bridal suite; a stunning, large bedroom complete with a roll-top bath, separate dressing room, contemporary en-suite and super king-size luxury padded bed; perfect for brides looking for a space to share with bridesmaids the night before and for couples to enjoy their wedding night. Two further bedrooms sleep up to five additional guests, with a shared contemporary bathroom complete with bath and shower located between the rooms.  OUTSIDE Large floor-to-ceiling bi-fold doors flood each ground floor space with plenty of natural daylight and allow guests to freely access the beautiful courtyard garden space. Decorated with romantic festoon lighting and firepits to keep the al fresco party going well into the evening, this area is framed by Cotswold stone walls and pleached Hornbeam trees to ensure total privacy. The garden path leads down into the rolling grounds, where amidst billowing willow trees and lawns there’s a small private lake and outdoor ceremony structure.  THE FOOD All food at Water’s Edge is freshly prepared in the theatre kitchen by the venue’s carefully curated in-house chef team. Using the very best in locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, menus are designed around the couple and range from delicious sharing platters and flame-grilled feasts, to opulent feasting menus. Come nightfall, a ‘Munchies’ menu keeps dancing feet well fuelled, ranging from luxury cheese toasties to tasty stone-baked pizzas and locally-sourced “fancy” hot dogs.  THE LOCATION Water’s Edge in Ewen is just 15 minutes from Cirencester and a stone’s throw from Kemble, which has train links to London. Venue hire costs from £5,900 for two-night exclusive use; food menus from £49 per person and the capacity is 110 guests seated and up to 180 people standing. For further information, visit www.watersedgeatewen.co.uk EDITOR LOVES Hunker down and explore the English countryside during a mini-moon in Chipping Norton at Bergman Design House’s one-bedroom private cottage. For those wishing to rustle up their winter feast and bake a berry crumble or two, Broadway Market and Daylesford Farm are just moments away and provide the freshest, organic produce from local farmers. Ramblers in search of the most scenic spots will love the variety of rewarding walking routes surrounding the cottage, including the nearby grounds of the beautiful Sudeley Castle and gardens. The Lund Collection is exquisitely decorated by the husband-and-wife design duo Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund and features a carefully-curated collection of original artwork and vintage treasures alongside new bespoke furniture from the studio’s Black Berg Collection. NEWWILTSHIRE MOTORING EVENT SET TO TAKE PLACE AT BOWOOD June 2023 will mark the debut of Masters of Motoring, a new premium motoring lifestyle event from Great British Motor Shows that’s being held at the luxury hotel wedding venue, Bowood. The new show, which is to be staged on Father’s Day on June 18th should prove to be a great addition to early summer motoring enthusiasts and collectors shows as well as to next year’s social events calendar, both in the UK and internationally. Masters of Motoring will be a combination of high-level classic and performance car displays, married with a carefully selected mix of leisure and lifestyle luxury retail opportunities, excellent food, drink and hospitality - all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Lansdowne family home at Bowood house and gardens, in Wiltshire. “I am extremely excited – and proud – to announce the inaugural Masters of Motoring,” explains Great British Motor Shows’ managing director Steve Bishop. “This has been something that has been in the planning stages for some time. We now have the right venue partners with Bowood House and, I believe, a great event format with new displays and select partners who will help to create an exciting and memorable experience for owners and visitors alike.” Masters of Motoring will host a VIP zone that will boast supercar and hypercar displays, together with its own hospitality area. This will sit alongside another major display area on the main front lawns of Bowood House that will showcase vehicles drawn from supercar owner’s clubs from around the UK. With a further area dedicated to individual owners of classic and performance vehicles, the event will therefore bring together, and celebrate, the Masters of Motoring from across the ages. “Masters of Motoring is all about finding that common ground between exhibitor and customer,” continues Steve Bishop. “The show aims to embrace the car club alongside the private collections – allowing owners to show off their pride and joy across a broad spectrum of motoring, in the best way, surrounded by exciting elements and in a fabulous environment.” For the inaugural Masters of Motoring, the main theme celebrates legendary car designer Marcello Gandini, the man behind - amongst other greats - Lamborghini’s Miura and Countach. The event will also pay homage to the 60th anniversary of another motoring master, the Porsche 911, with some fantastic ‘never-before-seen’ displays. Visitors to The Masters of Motoring will also be able to browse a deliberately-limited selection of premium retail partners, who will offer products and services ranging from watches and jewellery, through art and designer goods to luxury lifestyle and motoring service providers. “We are delighted to be welcoming the inaugural ‘Masters of Motoring’ to the Bowood Estate on Sunday 18th June” enthuses Sarah Forwood, events manager of the Bowood Estate. “Masters of Motoring will showcase beautiful classic cars and supercars within Bowood’s stunning grounds. This new and exciting show on Father’s Day will be a wonderful addition to our 2023 events lineup.” Lifestyle motoring media platform Paddock Life has already been signed up as the first Media Partner for the 2023 Masters of Motoring and will play an active role in the feature displays. The event organisers are also currently in discussion with several potential partners and further announcements can be expected over the coming months on details of these partnerships and about the event itself. To find out more, visit www.mastersofmotoring.com and to find out more about weddings at the venue, visit www.bowood.org Turn to page 23 to read all about Bowood as a wedding venue. COTSWOLD HILLS TO BE THE FIRST ENGLISH WINE TO BE SOLD IN PACKAMAMA’S ECO-FLAT FORMAT BOTTLE Cotswold Hills, the Royal Agricultural University’s award-winning wine and social enterprise based in Gloucestershire, has become the first UK vineyard to trial the use of Packamama’s multi-award-winning flat wine bottles. A small run of the 2021 English white wine, perfect for weddings, will be available in the new sustainable eco-flat bottles as part of an ongoing, student-led, project undertaken at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) and a celebration of how collaboration in the English wine industry can help create a more sustainable future. A core premise of the project is to allow students to gain important first-hand enterprise and employability skills, learning about vineyard management, grape varieties, wine production, marketing and finances. Hugo Sain-Ley-Berry-Gray, the RAU’s student lead on the project who is studying for a degree in Applied Farm Management at Cirencester university, said: “As students of food and agriculture, we are conscious of the carbon footprint associated with the industry. For the wine sector, glass bottles account for a high percentage of these emissions. “Eco-flat wine bottles offer Cotswold Hills a product that aligns with our sustainability objectives. Reducing the weight and changing the material of our bottles is a step in the right direction to solve an existing problem. As new entrants into the industry, this was an opportunity we were keen to explore. “Packamama’s eco-flat wine bottles provide an exciting opportunity to innovate and reduce the emissions of our product. Being the UK’s first vineyard to trial this format is exciting and we hope to inspire others to explore this option.” Keen to support the next generation of the UK wine industry, Packamama provided their Suffolk-produced, 100% recycled PET bottles for the project. Thanks to space, weight and energy savings, Packamama’s innovative packaging format enables emissions savings of around 50% compared to typical, round, glass bottles. Judith Candy, business development manager at Packamama, said, “The students involved in this project at the RAU represent a generation of eco-conscious young people who will not accept high carbon footprint products given the climate crisis. “As such, it has been a pleasure to support their endeavours in creating a local and sustainable product through supplying our lower carbon footprint bottles. As a British start-up, it is also very motivating to see our Packamama format used for an English wine for the first time and we hope it is the start of a long-lasting collaboration.” Katherine Duke, Head of Enterprise & Employability at the RAU, said, “This is an incredible project and we, at the RAU, are excited to be the first English wine producer to use these new eco-flat bottles.” To shop, visit www.cotswoldhills.org.uk Turn to page 51 to read more about wedding suppliers offering sustainable practices. 10

It is situated in the tranquil setting of the cathedral close and the wonderful garden leads down to the banks of the river Avon. With the rolling countryside beyond, it is difficult to imagine a better location within the Salisbury city limits for any outdoor event, be it a wedding reception, celebration or garden party. The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire. The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event. A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. These result in bright, modern food styles presented with attention to detail in an unfussy yet friendly manner. A bespoke menu is created for each client and a complimentary wedding planner is provided to run your special day. An interesting fact: did you knowwhy we are we called TheWardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. With staycations continuing to be a focus for Britons, it is encouraging to see such a strong regional presence this year and such a wide range of unique hotel experiences to enjoy.” The Boutique Hotel list follows on from the success of the Top 50 Cocktail Bars, as well as the long-running and ever-popular Top 50 Gastropubs. Emma and Adrian met online in April 2017. “We were both working in London and enjoyed our first date at The Alexandra pub in Wimbledon,” Emma tells us. “Adrian is from Norway and had plenty of Scandinavian charm - the conversation was so easy from the beginning!” The couple became engaged in Norway in June 2019. “We had relocated to Stavanger from London after a year of being together and were enjoying a walk on the beach after work when Adrian got down on one knee in the dunes and proposed!” Alice tells us. “It was a wonderful surprise!” SETTING THE SCENE Emma spent her teenage years growing up in Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire and her parents still live there today so it has always been a special place for her. “Adrian also got to know the area on a Norwegian family cycling holiday so we both decided it was the perfect part of the region for us to get married in,” Emma tells us. “We visited several venues and loved the relaxed atmosphere that Drakestone House offered and the fact that we could hire it for the entire weekend to celebrate!” Emma and Adrian had postponed their wedding twice due to the pandemic. “We “Rebecca was our wedding coordinator who made everything run smoothly.” - Emma and Adrian REAL WEDDINGS 25

were so excited to see everything come together after three years in the making,” they tell us. “We had legally tied the knot in Norway in 2020 during the pandemic but we wanted to enjoy a ceremony with our loved ones in the UK. It was held in a magical spot in the treecovered grove in the grounds of Drakestone House.” The couple had guests travelling from far to celebrate with them including many from Norway and they wanted to reflect this in their marquee reception. “Our theme was the coming together of these two cultures and we wanted to make it personal for everyone to show just how much they all meant to us,” Emma and Adrian tell us. “We chose a table plan featuring the Norse Tree of Life, called the Yggdrasil, and we named our tables after Norse gods and goddesses, with the goddess of love, Freya (and our daughter’s name) as the top table.” Their place names doubled up as favours featuring mini polaroid photographs of each guest. Emma loves flowers so it was important for her to have locally grown varieties that were in season. “Our centrepieces were posies presented in glass jars,” she tells us. “We also had a floral archway placed behind the top table that looked beautiful and, as a nod to Adrian’s brewing hobby, we had hops, the flower of a plant called Humulus lupulus, suspended from the ceiling in the marquee.” The team at the marquee hire company and the couple’s chosen florist provided them with props to display. “We had milk churns brimming with flowers, a card box and a cake stand to achieve the relaxed country feel we were after,” Emma says. Emma and Adrian had 100 cupcakes in various flavours including lemon, vanilla and carrot cake. “The top tier was a lemon cake which was served at the wedding barbecue the following day - our celebration was a three-day event!” LOOKING THE PART Emma chose the dress called Natalie from Bianco Evento that she “After the wedding breakfast, we had a cocktail hour hosted byThe Bar Bros and ice cream served by the Fluffy Puffin artisan ice cream company – both suppliers went above and beyond!” - Emma and Adrian REAL WEDDINGS 27

purchased in Norway. “It featured a lace bodice and I also wore the accompanying veil,” she tells us. “I wanted to keep my look simple with a vintage twist so I decided on a pair of blue bridal shoes and jewellery that belonged to our family members including Adrian’s late grandmother’s pearls and my late gran’s diamond stud earrings.” Adrian wore his traditional Norwegian Bunad for the ceremony. “Each region has a specific design and Adrian’s was from the Trondheim area where his family are based,” Emma explains. “I received my own Bunad that had been handmade by Adrian’s mum as a wedding gift which I will cherish.” Adrian changed into a suit with a pink jacket that was ideal for a summer’s day before dinner. “It’s a tradition in Norway to have one best man who also wore a summer casual suit,” Emma says. “Our five bridesmaids wore pale pink dresses in a style of their choice and my best woman, Jen, wore a beautiful lace dress and looked stunning!” TIME TO CELEBRATE Music was an important factor for Emma and Adrian and they filled their special day with three live music sessions. “Kim Cypher from the band called Dancin’ Easy performed a daytime jazz set during our reception drinks on the lawn,” Emma says. “We then had the local ceilidh band Hetty Pegler’s Tump who was brilliant, I think almost everyone was dancing which was amazing to see! Dancin’ Easy then performed as a seven-piece band and every guest commented on how talented they were and how much fun they had. Even my mum was up with one of Adrian’s friends which was the talk of the night!” “It was important to steal away some moments with our photographer, Alicia, to have some of our favourite photos of the day taken. This was one of the most romantic parts of the day for us both.” - Emma and Adrian 28
