Award-winning, international hair and make-up artist Tracey Curnock, who is based locally in Wiltshire, has recently been awarded two International Wedding Awards. These include Best Makeup Artist Global and Country Winner for the United Kingdom. Tracey has been working in the industry since 1999 having built a fantastic reputation and has plenty of experience applying make-up and styling hair for thousands of weddings, special events, proms, films, television shows and music videos. She has worked with some well-known directors and actors as the lead hair and make-up artist in feature films and television series. Here, we talk to Tracey about what make-up looks and colours will be popular for brides this summer. Tracey says: This year, bridal make-up formulas will be lighter but just as effective as before with subtle shimmers that will shine brighter without any added sparkle. A classic smooth eyeliner pencil or eyeshadow teamed with mascara will remain as popular as ever to complement the eyes. We’re going back to the future with bridal makeup this year. The colour effect is fading with no contour in the mix, encouraging fresh skin, and brows will appear full without being tweezed away (more on that in a moment!) There are many things for brides-to-be to take into account when planning their big-day look. The dress, accessories, shoes, decorations and hair are all key things but most importantly is a natural make-up look. Creative designs and risky colours are in the past, leaving the illusion of glowing skin created using neutral colours. It’s all about luminous, natural, healthy skin, with subtler colours used as the base, plus new eyeshadow colours, blusher tones and of course lipstick shades – a great way to add a touch of colour in a flash! It’s all about the eyes and eyelashes this spring – think volume and length. Eyelash extensions or false lashes make a great choice. If you feel that your lashes are a little sparse, add a couple of layers of waterproof mascara which provides depth to the eyes and prevents any happy tears from smearing your make-up! With these techniques, you can change the shape of your eyes and make them the natural focus. Eyebrows have gained plenty of attention (not to mention a following!) in the past with fluffy, tattooed or messy brows often more popular than the make-up itself. Eyebrows are ‘sisters’ and not ‘twins’, as the saying goes. Their shape should be achieved using a pencil or eyeshadow in a soft tone to produce a natural effect, framing your face. The way to finish your bridal look is to add shine with a glossy lip. This finishing touch has already been seen and continued to trend in past wedding seasons, but this year, brides will be wearing hydrated, glossy lips. You can always add a pop of colour with pastel pink lipstick applied underneath the gloss.
