Now that wedding planning is picking up, couples (and their guests) can't wait to get the party started! But when it comes to wedding celebrations in 2022, one thing is for certain, couples are getting hitched in ways that feel true to them, focusing on individuality and embracing everything unconventional. From colourful, destination-themed receptions to bespoke, heirloom-worthy gifts, dresses and accessories, the wedding planning boom is in full bloom. Here, Etsy reveals its top fashion trends...
Bridal bows
Bows are enjoying a resurgence and Etsy has seen a 51% increase in searches for bows on dresses and a 114% increase in searches for bridal or bridesmaids' accessories with bows. After living in loungewear for the past two years, many brides-to-be are eager to look ultra-glamorous on their big day and bows offer the perfect solution. Whether oversized and sculptural or small and dainty, the bow is a classic look that can add romance or drama to any bridal look or wedding day decor.
1960s style
The iconic 1960s have long had a major influence on the world of fashion, and this historical time of change and revolution saw several enduring trends emerge, for example, the miniskirt. Sixties brides did their own thing, rejecting the overly feminine dresses of the previous decade, and opting for pared-down looks with shorter hemlines. With searches on Etsy for short wedding dresses up 29% and searches for A-line dresses up 22%, today's brides are embracing the styles of decades past.
Veils
Also embracing the retro look are shorter veils and veil alternatives that are also making a comeback. Etsy reveals a 41% increase in searches for short or shoulder-length veils and a 37% increase in searches for blusher-lenght ones and a 10% increase in searches for pillbox hats in the last three months.
Regency aesthetics
Thanks to this year's much-anticipated return of popular 19th century-inspired TV show, Regencycore, a style inspired by the 1800s elite is continuing to influence both decor and fashion alike. Inspired by a sense of escapism, this trend is all about fairytale opulence, elegance, timeless romance and vintage-inspired luxury. Etsy has seen a 121% increase in searches for bridal gloves, a 93% increase in searches for puff sleeves on wedding dresses and a 78% increase in searches for pearl-encrusted veils.
