Growing frustration with wedding perfection culture is reshaping how couples plan their big day, with sustainability, guest experience and authenticity becoming increasingly important, according to new research from Flawsome!.
A national study of 2,000 UK adults found that 81% believe a wedding does not need to be perfect to be memorable, while 71% say social media has increased pressure on couples to create a “perfect” day.
Sustainability is also becoming a key consideration, with 52% saying it is important when planning a wedding. Yet wedding waste remains widespread, with 41% of respondents having seen food and drink thrown away at weddings, while 32% recalled single-use decorations being discarded and more than a quarter had seen flowers go to waste.
Guest experience is another priority, with 70% saying high-quality food and drink are important at weddings. More than half (51%) would also value premium non-alcoholic options, reflecting growing demand for more inclusive drinks choices.
Flawsome! says the wedding bar is one area where couples can rethink tradition. The brand’s co-founder, Karina Sudenyt, tested a self-service drinks station at her own wedding, replacing the venue’s standard mixers with Flawsome! drinks. The move eliminated queues and saved more than 1,300 pieces of surplus fruit — around 250kg — from going to waste.
The findings point to a wider shift away from lavish details designed for social media and towards meaningful moments, quality hospitality and celebrations that feel personal.
The research forms part of Flawsome!’s new ‘Flaws & All’ campaign, which encourages couples to embrace personality over perfection and make more conscious choices around food, drink, suppliers and waste.
The campaign is accompanied by The Flaws & All Wedding Guide, a free downloadable resource offering practical advice, drinks inspiration and ideas for creating a more sustainable, authentic celebration.
Karina Sudenyt, Co-Founder of Flawsome!, said: “When you think back to the best weddings you've attended, you rarely remember whether every detail was flawless. You remember the atmosphere, the people, the conversations, the food and drink, and the moments that made the day feel unique.”
