The ring is on, and the bells have been rung...what's next?

When the confetti settles and you're left with a shiny new name, the natural panic starts to set in "what documents do I need to change?" An aspect many don't consider until they have to, is the seemingly endless list of documents that now need updating. Below is a list of all the official bits you'll need to look at, now that you're embarking on newlywed bliss.

The name change checklist:
  • Passport – more information about name changes on passports is available at UK Deed Poll Office.
  • Driver's license
  • HMRC – this is for tax and National Insurance reasons
  • Bank – you'll need a new card for your new name!
  • Employer – want to amke sure there's no confusion with payslips
  • Utility companies
  • Electoral roll – you simply need to register to vote under your new name!
  • Pension
  • Insurance – your insurnace will need to match your license
  • Doctor – to keep your NHS records up to date
  • Dentist
  • Landlord/ mortgage provider
  • Memberships (gym, clubs, subscriptions, etc)
  • Phone provider
  • Social media

This list feels exhausting and expensive to look at, but all necessary if you want to make your new name official. Ensure you have your marriage certificate when making all of these changes, as it will act as proof. You may also want to update your will, and beneficiary designations, if you're being super organised.
