Al fresco vibes Summer festival, English country garden, tea party... al fresco wedding styling possibilities are fun, frivolous and practically endless. £14.95, rexlondon.com wayfair.co.uk £28, rockettstgeorge.co.uk £12.95, rexlondon.com £49.95, sparkle.lighting The warmer weather is finally starting to arrive, which always makes our thoughts turn to outdoor weddings. We absolutely love the al fresco vibe, but the planning isn’t without its complications. There’s a lot to think about from ‘the where,’ to ‘the how.’ Then there’s the to-do list: do you need toilets? Lighting? Seating? Generators? Permits? And the age-old question, of course: What if it rains? Is it really worth it? The short answer, we believe, is yes! If you’re the sort of person who adores a spreadsheet, this will be a breeze; and if you’re not, well, that’s what wedding planners are for. Don’t compromise on your dreams because things might get a little bit tricky. That said, if the thought still leaves your knees knocking, there’s another answer. Simply look for a venue with oodles of outdoor space. Check if it offers outdoor ceremonies, al fresco drink receptions, and access to the grounds all day, and you’re laughing. All of the open-air joy and none of the hassle – your venue team have totally got this. I hope you love this issue; our first foray into summer for 2026. Enjoy and as ever... keeeep planning! The perfect start to married life The team at Polhawn Fort have noticed a growing number of couples choosing to avoid a traditional fly-away honeymoon in favour of building a post-wedding mini-moon. Slower travel, extended stays, and wellness-led winding down, are increasingly shaping how couples plan the days immediately following the wedding. For a mid-week wedding at Polhawn Fort, typically couples will arrive on a Monday, marry on Tuesday, then spend two full days decompressing together once guests have departed. They’ll enjoy swimming, using the sauna, walking to Rame Head, and settling into married life without the rush of travel. Indeed, this trend is opening up fresh opportunities around mid-week weddings and longer stays, as couples are drawn to the idea of extending their celebration into something calmer, more restorative, and personal. Find out more at polhawnfort.com New spa menu The Gainsborough Bath Spa has unveiled a new, elevated treatment menu harmonising ancient thermal traditions with modern therapeutic innovation. Experience the Thermal Mineral Wave, a full-body massage performed on warm water cushions that mimics the rhythmic flow of the springs, or indulge in the Copper and Quartz Firming Massage, which utilises pure copper tools and warm rose quartz to provide antiinflammatory sculpting. If rejuvenation is what you seek, the Blue Diamond Performance Facial offers a high-end anti-ageing journey powered by Omorovicza’s premium line and advanced LED technology. Creating memories New data from local holiday company Kate & Tom’s reveals brides are a whopping three times more organised when it comes to planning their hen dos compared to stags. They’re more likely to book nine to 12 months ahead, whereas stags have a penchant for leaving it to the last minute! What’s more, celebrations are evolving, and we’re witnessing the rise of the zen do, multi-generational getaways, sten do joint celebrations, and experience-led events. Andy Brooker, travel expert at Kate & Tom’s, weighs in on the everchanging landscape of pre-wedding celebrations: “It’s fascinating to see the cultural insight in the data, with hens consistently proving significantly more organised than stags. “We’ve seen a shift in the way they’re celebrating too. There’s an increased appetite for group getaways that prioritise time and creating core memories. Whether that’s a group stay with the full works of facilities, a heated pool, hot tub, yoga room, or a games room with karaoke set-up as the number one priority, we’re moving away from the one-size-fits-all hen and stag do. It all really boils down to personal preference.” Find out more at Kate & Tom’s properties at kateandtoms.com PERSONAL CONNECTIONS If you’re looking for a meaningful piece of jewellery for your big day, check out independent jeweller Banwells, in Sidmouth, Devon. Cheltenham is synonymous with festivals, and summer 2026 is no exception. Any food lover visiting the town should eat at Le Champignon Sauvage (lechampignonsauvage.co.uk), Cheltenham’s iconic, longest-serving Michelin-starred restaurant. Helmed by chef-owner, David Everitt-Matthias, this gastronomic gem has recently been named as one of the UK’s Michelin restaurants that is really worth the money by The Telegraph. While the famous Cheltenham Festival takes place in March, the racecourse (thejockeyclub.co.uk/cheltenham) remains a hub of excitement throughout the year. Summer visitors can attend evening racing, family fun days and behind-the-scenes tours to soak up the electric atmosphere and stunning views. unsplash.com@tabithaturnervisuals LOCAL NEWS 7

TO SOULMATES From housemates Katie and Ethan’s big day was a vibrant, personality-packed wedding filled with colour, creativity and heartfelt touches Images courtesy of Kirsty Purkis Photography Katie met Ethan originally at a Halloween party, but they went their separate ways at the end of the night. A week later, she moved into a house share for her final year of university and discovered that Ethan was already living there! “He spent the following months trying to woo me, which eventually worked,” Katie remembers. Ethan proposed in Egypt in 2023, and the couple started planning their big day. When Katie viewed Rockbeare Manor as a potential wedding venue, she knew it was the one. “It’s a beautiful Grade I listed building that looks like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel,” she explains. “The light, bright spaces and original features made it impossible not to fall in love with.” Since the décor at the venue is clean and minimalist, Katie and Ethan decided to inject some bold colour through their wedding palette, while maintaining a formal feel. Hues included rose and hot pink. Centrepieces included small vases filled with pink roses, with lace and pearl runners for each table. The duo repurposed a postbox from the tip, transforming it into their wedding letterbox, while Katie hand-painted the venue onto canvas for guests to sign as an alternative to a guestbook. “Rockbeare Manor’s food is incredible,” Katie tells us. After the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed canapés including sesame halloumi bites with chilli jam and battered cod with triple- cooked chips, pea purée and lemon. For the wedding breakfast a starter of buffalicious mozzarella was served with cherry vine tomatoes, chilli jam and toasted pumpkin seeds. This was followed by slow-roasted glazed short rib of beef with pommes Anna, pak choi and red wine reduction. The indulgent dessert was a double chocolate and Morello cherry brownie with clotted cream ice cream. Pizza was served later in the evening. The bride wore Jesse by Watters. “When I tried it on, it felt just right,” Katie remembers. “It was slim-fitting and slightly quirky with an off-the-shoulder Grecian style, which I loved.” Meanwhile, Ethan and his groomsmen wore classic tuxedos, and the bridesmaids were dressed in two different shades of pink. The couple set out to inject as much of their personalities into the day as possible and set up a beer pong table in the garden in honour of their university days. Additionally, because the two travel a lot and love to make travel videos, they set up a projector showing their vlogs on a loop. Guests were also able to try their hand at several garden games, and Katie created a ‘sip and sign’ crossword for them to play, featuring clues about the newlyweds. Katie’s cousin played with his band, Noble Jacks, whose upbeat country and folk music perfectly matched the Devon countryside vibe. “Everyone loved them,” the bride shares. Katie leaves us with her top planning tip: “Don’t get carried away with other people’s expectations. Make your day your own – it will be far more meaningful. The smallest personal touches create the magic.” REAL WEDDINGS 17

A lovely day Victoria and Gary said “I do” at Stonehouse Church, St Cyrs, before heading to Stonehouse Court Hotel via canal boat where they celebrated in style Images courtesy of Peter Smart Photography REAL WEDDINGS 23
As midnight passed, one special New Year’s Eve, Gary got down on one knee and proposed to Victoria with fireworks illuminating the night sky above. Happily, she said, “Yes”, and the couple set about planning their big day in the new year. Victoria and Gary fell in love with the Caroline Suite at Stonehouse Court Hotel in Gloucestershire. “We loved the beautiful Cotswold country hotel setting next to a scenic canal,” Victoria explains. “The Caroline Suite had its own large, private garden for games, drinks and guests to use.” Meanwhile, the church was on the doorstep, which meant the couple were able to hold their ceremony before jumping onto a canal boat – where they were met with cocktails – for a short ride together. Guests strolled back and began playing games on the lawn, including coconut shy and giant Connect 4, while enjoying reception drinks and preparing to meet the newlyweds on their arrival. There was also a guitarist to keep them entertained, who was a big hit. Opting for a mid-olive green and white palette, the pair hired a large canopy blossom tree for the top table, with further tall blossom trees placed on each reception table. “This maintained a simple yet stunning blossom theme in the main room, before we moved the disco beneath the canopy tree with uplighting for maximum effect in the evening,” Victoria tells us. The flowers were all designed in the wedding palette, with the bridal bouquet in a tumbling teardrop effect. Olive green sashes adorned the Chiavari chairs, and personalised biscuits were gifted to each guest as wedding favours, iced in white and olive green. Even the signage was designed to match the elegant colour palette. 24
The bride wore Forencia by Mary’s Bridal – a vintagestyle ballgown with some of the volume removed for a more classic fall. “Once I tried it on, I knew it was the perfect fit for the traditional, vintage vibe I was looking for,” Victoria explains. “And I was delighted to discover it had hidden pockets – every woman’s dream!” Gary chose a slim-fit Antique Rogue three-piece suit in navy, which he wore with a light silver tie. His groomsmen were dressed to match with olive green ties to complement the bridesmaids’ attire. “It was very difficult to find bridesmaids’ dresses in the mid- olive green, but this rich olive green went perfectly with the flowers and greenery,” Victoria shares. The highlight of the day for the bride was the canal boat ride after the church ceremony, as well as laying eyes on the blossom-filled Caroline Suite for the first time. “We entered to Lovely Day to be greeted by friends and family as they applauded,” she remembers. We part with some top tips from Victoria: “When picking the finishing touches, we tried to consider what would make our day, and us, happier within our budget, rather than what was expected. So, we decided not to have a long top table as we wanted to be able to chat to our wedding party and children. We also looked at whether it would add to the effect we were looking for, such as investing our funds into garden games and the guitarist to make the day fun and memorable. “I tried to be as organised as possible by having a spreadsheet of suppliers with costs and reminding them the week before so I could resolve any misunderstandings. But if something does go wrong, which some small things are bound to, it’s still a wonderful day.” REAL WEDDINGS 25

Champagne This shoot brings together classical grandeur, high-style fashion, and playful modernity, offering a fresh perspective on luxury weddings Images courtesy of Lucy Lloyd-Jones Photography, Andrea Quigley Photography and Charlottle Sams Photography AND CAVIAR he creative direction for this local shoot, inspired by a Champagne and caviar theme, marries sophistication with modern celebration. Refined details set the tone with cascades of fresh white roses and a classic tiered cake adorned with gold Roman numerals and delicate lettering. Meanwhile, live performances from a saxophonist and violinist filled the castle with atmosphere, and a Champagne spray captured the essence of revelry, elevating the grandeur of the day. The showcased bridal fashion is equally striking. The first look, featuring a gorgeous couture gown paired with a sweeping cathedral-length veil, creates a breathtaking silhouette against the castle backdrop. While in the second look, the bride embraces cinematic glamour in a silky gown and fur shawl, finished with sleek wavy hair and a signature red lip, a statement of bold refinement. The day’s celebration unfolds in stages of luxury. A seafood-inspired wedding breakfast within the castle’s historic walls is followed by a spirited gathering in the party turret, and an unforgettable finale as the newlyweds dive into the castle’s pool – a moment of pure joy. VENUE STYLING 35 Explore how on-trend colours, layered textures, and immersive styling can transform your wedding into a truly memorable celebration Styling your wedding is an exciting but often overwhelming process. With so many options available, it can be difficult to know where to begin. A good starting point is your venue. If your venue is already rich in character or heavily styled, lean into its existing décor and architectural features rather than competing with them. In these cases, try not to over-style the space – sometimes less really is more, and allowing the venue to shine can create a far more elegant result. If your venue is more of a blank canvas, styling it from scratch may feel daunting. To make the process more manageable, break it down into what matters most to you as a couple. Is it the colour scheme, the overall theme, or the personal details that tell your story? By prioritising what’s most important, you can build a cohesive vision without becoming overwhelmed. To help guide your decisions, we’ve broken this feature into three key elements of modern wedding styling: on-trend colours, materials and texture, and atmosphere and experience. THE POWER OF COLOUR After choosing a venue, colour is often the first styling decision couples make. Rather than focusing on a single statement shade, modern weddings are embracing layered, thoughtful colour palettes that flow throughout the day. Today’s on-trend colour palettes include soft pastels grounded with fresh greens, warm sunset tones such as peach, coral, blush and amber, earth-led neutrals paired with deeper accent shades, and statement brights used sparingly for contrast and impact. These palettes feel contemporary yet timeless when applied with balance and intention. COLOUR IN EVERY DETAIL Couples are increasingly carrying colour through every element of their day, rather than limiting it to florals alone. Thoughtful use of colour can be introduced through table linens, napkins, coloured glassware, candles, stationery, upholstery, rugs and soft furnishings. By incorporating colour into smaller details, you create a more immersive and cohesive design that feels considered rather than overwhelming. Florals still play a central role, but instead of one solid block colour, many couples are opting for complementary tones and layered hues within their arrangements. This approach adds depth and visual interest while keeping the overall look softer and more natural. ROOM TO BREATHE The most refined colour palettes allow space to breathe. Anchoring bolder tones with neutrals such as ivory, stone, taupe or soft grey helps create balance and prevents the styling from feeling too busy. Deeper colours work best when used in smaller doses. If you love black or other dark shades, absolutely include them, but soften the look with lighter hues and natural textures to avoid a heavy or overly formal feel. Always let your venue’s natural tones inform your palette. A rustic barn with exposed beams, for example, pairs beautifully with warm neutrals and earthy accents, while a modern space may suit cleaner tones with sharper contrasts. Working with your venue rather than against it ensures on-trend colours feel intentional and harmonious. HUES OF THE SEASON Taking the time of year into account can influence both your styling and your budget. Seasonal flowers and materials are more readily available, often more affordable, and more sustainable than imported options. Spring weddings suit pastel shades, fresh greens and soft floral hues. Summer celebrations often lean into sun-washed brights, Mediterranean blues and warm, joyful colours. Autumn is defined by rich, warm neutrals such as rust, berry, terracotta and caramel, while winter weddings tend to favour deep jewel tones softened with light neutrals and metallic accents. A PALETTE THAT’S YOURS While it’s tempting to follow trends to ensure your wedding looks Instagram-worthy, remember that trends evolve, but your wedding photos will last a lifetime. Choose colours that genuinely reflect your personalities and style as a couple. If you’re struggling to settle on a palette, look to meaningful places, memories or shared experiences for inspiration. A love of the seaside might translate into soft blues and sandy tones, while travel memories could inspire bolder accents. Use colour as a guide rather than a rigid rulebook, allowing flexibility and creativity throughout your styling. STYLED Beautifully unsplash.com/@jayson_hinrichsen
36 MATERIALS AND TEXTURES While colour lays the foundation for your wedding aesthetic, texture is what truly brings a space to life. Thoughtful layering of materials adds warmth, depth and visual interest, elevating even the most minimal colour palette. Texture also helps spaces feel more immersive and intentional, ensuring your styling feels rich and considered rather than flat or one-dimensional. Modern wedding styling embraces contrast and tactility, blending soft and structured elements to create environments that feel inviting and lived-in, while remaining elegant. SOFT LAYERS, WARM SPACES Soft furnishings play a vital role in wedding styling, particularly when it comes to transforming large or neutral spaces. On-trend choices include raw linen and soft cotton tablecloths, loosely draped fabrics for ceilings and backdrops, and textured runners, napkins and chair details. These layers instantly soften a room, absorbing light and creating a sense of warmth and intimacy. Layering is key – combining different weaves and weights of fabric adds depth without relying on colour alone. Even subtle variations in texture can make a significant difference, especially in venues with clean lines or industrial features. NATURE’S BEAUTY Organic materials continue to dominate modern wedding styling, bringing a sense of grounding to the day. Trending materials include wood, stone, ceramic, woven rattan, clay and plaster finishes. These materials introduce natural variation and visual interest, ensuring no two elements feel identical. Handmade and imperfect finishes are currently being celebrated rather than concealed. Uneven edges, subtle colour variations and tactile surfaces all contribute to a relaxed yet refined atmosphere that feels timeless. OLD MEETS NEW One of the most effective ways to create texture is through contrast. Pairing old and new elements keeps styling feeling curated rather than themed. Think vintage wooden tables paired with contemporary floral designs, polished glassware placed on raw linen tablecloths, or modern venues softened with antique furniture and layered textiles. This balance prevents a space from feeling overly formal or too rustic, allowing each element to enhance the other. The result is a dynamic and visually interesting environment that feels personal and thoughtfully styled. FLORAL TEXTURE STORIES Florals are no longer defined solely by colour. Increasingly, couples and florists are focusing on texture, movement and form. Popular trends include foam-free, meadow-style arrangements, dried elements mixed with fresh blooms, and generous use of foliage as a grounding layer. These natural, loosely structured arrangements create a softer, more organic look that complements modern styling. The emphasis is on flow and variation, giving florals a sense of effortlessness while still feeling impactful. SMALL DETAILS, BIG IMPACT Texture often lives in the smallest details, and these subtle touches can have a surprisingly large impact on the overall design. Hand-torn stationery edges, ribbed or coloured glassware, stone, marble or wooden place cards, layered candleholders and varied vessels all contribute to a richer visual experience. While guests may not consciously notice each detail, collectively they create a sense of cohesion that elevates the entire space. These thoughtful elements help tie the styling together and reinforce the overall atmosphere. unsplash.com/@jkalen71 unsplash.com/@anitaaustvika
VENUE STYLING 37 ATMOSPHERE AND EXPERIENCE Colour establishes the mood, texture adds depth, but atmosphere is what guests remember long after the day is over. Thoughtful styling choices shape how a wedding feels, guiding guests through the experience from their first arrival to the final moments on the dancefloor. Atmosphere is created through a combination of lighting, layout, sound and flow, all working together to support the story of the day. SETTING THE GLOW Lighting is one of the most powerful and transformative styling tools, yet it is often overlooked. The right lighting can completely change the mood of a space. On-trend approaches focus on soft, warm lighting rather than harsh white tones, creating a welcoming and romantic ambience. Popular options include statement lighting installations above tables, layered candlelight for intimacy, uplighting to highlight architectural features, and fairy or festoon lighting to bring warmth to evening celebrations. Having the same space styled for both daytime and nighttime demonstrates just how impactful lighting choices can be. MOMENTS IN MOTION Atmosphere is not static – it evolves throughout the wedding day. From the calm of the ceremony to a relaxed cocktail hour and into an energetic evening celebration, each moment should flow naturally into the next. Thoughtful styling supports these transitions without requiring complete redesigns. Florals are repurposed, furniture is subtly rearranged, and lighting shifts gradually from natural daylight to candlelight. After dusk, small yet impactful updates such as enhanced dancefloor lighting or mirrored elements help shift the energy and elevate the celebration. By making considered adjustments to layout, lighting and table styling, spaces are able to transform seamlessly. The result is a wedding that feels dynamic and intentional, carrying guests effortlessly from day into night while maintaining continuity and atmosphere throughout. INTIMATE MOMENTS WITHIN Modern weddings prioritise experience over formality. Rather than one large, open room, couples are increasingly creating defined areas within a space. On-trend ideas include lounge zones with soft seating and layered textiles, bars styled as wow design moments, quiet corners for conversation and clearly defined areas for dining, dancing and relaxing. Zoning helps large venues feel more intimate and encourages guests to move, mingle and engage with the environment throughout the day. ENGAGING THE SENSES Atmosphere goes beyond what guests see. Sensory styling considers every touchpoint of the experience. Scent can be introduced through subtle florals, herbs or candles, while sound is shaped by live musicians or thoughtfully placed speakers that enhance rather than overpower the space. Touch plays a role through tactile linens, napkins, menus and signage, while comfort is addressed through temperature control and thoughtful additions such as throws, fans or parasols. These details work together to create an environment that feels welcoming, balanced and effortless. unsplash.com/@didipaul unsplash.com/@captured_photography
