Abbey House Hotel and Gardens in Cumbria are guaranteeing the sky will turn white at all weddings taking place in November and December 2020. The team have invested in the latest snow cannon technology to ensure a magical scene greets wedding parties as they sweep into the hotel's fairy-lit entrance. The Winter Wonderland guarantee comes on the back of feedback from brides and grooms, who said snow at their wedding would have been the icing on the cake.

Brian Conroy, the operations director, said: “The hotel looks truly stunning when it's decorated for the winter period, and while we are heavily booked for the coming November and December, we do have some availability. The only thing which we can never rely upon is the weather, and snow is a rarity around this time of year despite it being something that many people wish for. So we have decided that whatever the whim of Mother Nature, there will be snow at every winter wedding if that's the wish of the happy couple.”

I love bride Laura's wedding dress.

She said: "I chose a Stella York gown called 6701 from Laura May Bridal. It was the first dress I tried on. I looked at eight others but kept coming back to it. It made me feel beautiful and was the exact material I wanted. I initially thought I wanted sleeves, but this style made me feel confident without them. The girls at Laura May Bridal were great at helping me choose something that perfect for me. I accessorised with a stone bracelet from Monica Vinader that was engraved with our wedding date on the back.”

Local stylist, Lauren Croker from Styled by LC reveals how you can style a marquee.

"The nicest thing about summer is those balmy evenings. As an alternative to flowers, I'm a massive fan of balloons. They come in different shades and sizes and when done properly look amazing!
"The idea of a lounge where your guests can chill out will give you a glamorous beach club vie. You can tie the furniture colour into your balloons to really finish it off.
"Palm & Leopard have launched a fizz wall. This allows guests to help themselves while also being a fab feature that would look great on Instagram. It can be customised with flowers to fit your colour scheme or perhaps mini balloons."

Local cake maker, Suzanne Thorp from The Frostery reveals how you can incorporate strong flavours into your big-day cake.

"For something unexpected, woody herbs such as rosemary, thyme and lavender would work well when teamed with more familiar citrus flavours. If you're having a tiered wedding cake, you have the opportunity to mix and match. You could opt for a one or two-tier design in a classic flavour and team it with something unusual. The season in which you're getting married may inspire you; think pears, pomegranates, maple syrup, figs and ginger for an autumn-inspired bake or strawberries, basil, rhubarb and lemon thyme for spring creations. One of our favourite combinations is an orange sponge cake with spiced cinnamon and cloves with a creamy and nutty tahini buttercream – yum!"
