The Exchange 1856 has completed its seven-figure refurbishment programme. The Victorian building, which is located on Howard Street in the heart of the Cultural Quarter, is one of North Tyneside’s most stunning architectural landmarks.
Every area of The Exchange 1856 has been updated and improved to create a spectacular and glamorous interior. Original architectural features such as fireplaces, ornate architraves and stained-glass windows have been restored to their former glory and complemented with high-quality fixtures and fittings, new flooring and panelling in soft heritage colours, in keeping with the overall character of the building.

The inspiration behind this styled shoot was weddings on the water. Whether you decide to get married along the waterfront with a flower arch or literally on the water in a boat or punt, these local suppliers wanted to show how you can create the wedding of your dreams. “It all came together along the River Cam in Cambridge,” says Carrieanne from Happy Moments Co. “There are local venues there that offer waterside wedding celebrations, such as Magdalene College. I also wanted to show couples the talented suppliers that are available to them during their wedding journey.”

The Deaf Institute was the backdrop for this alternative styled shoot. “We wanted to showcase this Grade II-listed Manchester building as it recently opened up its calendar for weddings,” says Beth Atton de Sa from ALT Events Co. “The Deaf Institute is now an internationally recognised alternative music venue that was once a school for the deaf. I really wanted to create a shoot within a city centre venue. I love old buildings with an interesting story and eclectic décor. We used jewel tones throughout the shoot, turned the contrast right down and used minimal décor to highlight the aesthetic of the building.
“The shoot brought together a great collection of skills, products and people,” adds Beth. “I’ve been in business for a year as a solo alternative wedding planner with an ethic to highlight the lesser-known places, people, and ideas in the wedding industry, with a focus on the unique and outlandish.”

The Grade II-listed Anglican Chapel was built in 1847 using Hartshill stone in a Norman style. The chapel has undergone extensive restoration and is now equipped with underfloor heating, bronze casement double glazing, and all the facilities to accommodate a range of events, meetings, and ceremonies.
Claire Healy, the ceremonies manager for Coventry Registration District, tells us more: “In the mid-Victorian era, as city centre churchyards became overcrowded, carefully designed and landscaped cemeteries on the outskirts of cities became increasingly popular. As well as being natural environments often full of exotic trees and plants, many also displayed beautiful architecture designed by renowned architects of the day. London Road Cemetery is no exception; it was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, an architect, gardener, and Member of Parliament for Coventry who notably designed Crystal Palace in London."

Ashleigh and Joe met by chance. “It all started with an encounter in Yates, Hartlepool, after I had been out in Newcastle for the day for my friend’s birthday,” says Ashleigh. “Joe had been out with his dad and they decided to have a cheeky stop in town before heading home. When one of the best mixes came on over the speakers, a dance off broke out with boys vs girls. Joe saw his chance to take the centre of the circle, but little did he know that I would break out into dance and steal the show. A few weeks after our chance encounter, we crossed paths again on Tinder, and as we recognised each other, we started talking and eventually organised our first date.”

Hannah and Lee met online in 2014, when they were 16 and 17 years old. “We arranged to have our first date in Bristol,” says Hannah. “We had a long-distance relationship, as Lee was from Somerset and I lived in South Wales. Over the years, our relationship blossomed and we bought our first house together in April 2020.”
Lee popped the question in 2018. “He booked a night’s stay at the Celtic Manor Resort as a birthday present and surprised me with the proposal,” shares the bride. “We were due to get married in August 2020, but due to COVID, we had to re-arrange it twice. We first rescheduled to May 2021; however, due to restrictions still in place, we decided to move it to June 2022.”

Kylie and Joe met 14 years ago thanks to a mutual friend. “Our bond was ignited by our shared sense of humour, which quickly brought us closer together,” says Kylie. “Our connection grew, leading us to embark on numerous dates and lots of fun activities, which included a lot of sight-seeing.”
After thinking marriage might not be on the cards for them, Kylie was shocked when Joe popped the question. “He whisked me away to London for a day, treating me to the joyous spectacle of Mamma Mia The Party and a vibrant party at the London O2 arena,” shares the bride. “The performance was utterly enchanting, filled with laughter, dancing, and delectable cuisine. Amid the dancing, Joe arranged for someone to capture a snapshot of us. To my astonishment, he got down on one knee, asking me to marry him. My eyes couldn’t believe what they were witnessing. Strangely, instead of saying ‘yes’, I instinctively responded with a thumbs-up, a moment we now fondly laugh and joke about.”

Danielle and Iffan met at work. “It was my first day in critical care; I asked him for a handover and he was rude to me,” says Danielle. “He was so rude, I decided not to speak to him again, but we kept running into each other at work and eventually started talking. We met again at a work’s do, sparks started to fly, and the rest is history!”
Iffan proposed on Danielle’s 30th birthday. “It was the best birthday present ever,” shares the bride. “He took me away to the Lake District and got down on one knee in our hotel room. He asked me the question I had long been awaiting, and of course, I said yes!”

Rebecca and Bradley met in March 2020 and had an instant connection. “After five dates, lockdown hit,” says Rebecca. “We spent three months talking via FaceTime, and at that point, we knew if we could get through lockdown, we could get through anything. Straight after the restrictions eased, we went house hunting and nine months later, we finally managed to move in together!
“In October 2021, we went to Kos, Greece, for a holiday, and Bradley turned to me and told me he had a gift for me,” continues Rebecca. “He looked into my eyes, got down on one knee, and asked me, while trying to hold back the tears, if I would marry him. I obviously said yes. I couldn’t believe it; my dream had finally come true.”
