With a bit of prep and the right guidance, you'll look stunning, feel confident, and beready to say "I do" – celebrity hairdresser Melissa Timperley tells us how

bride and groom on wedding day

As a celebrity hairdresser and founder of Melissa Salons (melissa-salons.com), Melissa Timperley has worked with brides from the red carpet to private villas, so she knows the key to perfect wedding hair. "Trust me," she says, "It isn't just what you do on the day, but how you prep during the weeks, even months, leading up to it." Whether you're going for romantic waves, a sleek updo, or something whimsical and boho, Melissa shares her top five must-know tips to ensure your hair is aisle ready.

START EARLY
"Healthy hair is the foundation of any great wedding look," Melissa shares. "Start with regular trims, at least three to six months before the big day, to eliminate split ends and schedule deep conditioning treatments every few weeks. If you're thinking of a big change like colour, length or style, do it well in advance. This gives your hair time to settle and avoids any lastminute regrets."

BOOK A TRIAL
"Never skip the hair trial. It's your chance to test out your dream look and make adjustments. Bring inspiration photos, but say open-minded, what works on one person might not flatter your face shape, dress neckline, or hair texture. Bonus tip: Do your trial on the same day as your dress fitting or make-up trial for the full effect."

THINK ABOUT THE WEATHER
"Outdoor summer wedding? Your curls might not hold up. Winter affair? Static and dryness can be your enemy. Your stylist should tailor the products and style to your wedding season and venue. For example, I always use anti-humidity sprays for tropical weddings and lightweight serums for dry, cold air."

DON'T OVERDO IT
"Avoid over-styling or over-washing the day before your wedding. Freshly washed hair can be too slippery for styles to hold. Ideally, wash your hair the day before and use minimal product so your stylist has a clean but manageable base to work with."

PLAN FOR TOUCH UPS
"Even the best hairstyles can lose their shape after hours of dancing, hugging and celebrating. Ask your stylist to show your maid-of-honour or a bridesmaid how to do quick fixes, whether it's pinning a loose strand or taming flyaways. Also, pack a mini emergency hair kit with a few bobby pins, hairspray and a small comb."
