My wedding is in just a few months but I’ve had a super hectic summer and my energy is really low it’s making me feel anxious about getting the last few things ready in time. I’ve taken a fresh look at my diet but is there a supplement or some kind of energy boosting tonic style product I could use in the run up to my wedding? Maria, Essex.
UK-based registered nutritionist Sue Oldrieve says: Taking a fresh look at your diet, as well as your overall sleep, relaxation and activity regimes, is a great place to start addressing your energy levels. Focussing on mindful eating and a diet based on wholegrains, fruit, vegetables and lean proteins will set you up for good intakes of most nutrients. Low blood sugars, arising from irregular eating habits or diets low in carbohydrates, can contribute to feeling tired and lacking focus too, so make sure you plan regular meals as well as planning your wedding!
In terms of supplements to help with tiredness or low energy levels you could add in a general multivitamin and mineral option or look for something a little more specific, such as a B vitamin complex or an iron or iodine supplement. All these nutrients have a recognised role in energy metabolism, with some also acknowledged as helping to reduce tiredness and fatigue. Taking your supplement with plenty of water will bring the added benefit of hydration – another key part of keeping your energy levels and focus in tip top condition.
