The brand is proud to support a variety of causes, providing women and girls with resources and opportunities so they can thrive and achieve their goals. It is therefore thrilled to announce that for the third year, it has partnered with inspirational UK charity Women’s Aid for International Women’s Day. The mission of Women’s Aid is to create Change that Lasts; a plan that is working to ensure all survivors get the right response to domestic abuse the very first time. Women’s Aid, like L’OCCITANE, wants all those we it works with – survivors, colleagues, members and sister organisations – to fulfil their potential. It provides opportunities, works collaboratively and shares its platform. It believes in the strengths of survivors, creating and promoting tools and services that work for survivors, led by the expertise of survivors.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The story of L’OCCITANE’s commitment to empowering women began in Burkina Faso in 1981, where L’OCCITANE’s founder, Olivier Baussan, heard of the extraordinary benefits of shea butter, colloquially known as “women’s gold”. As he learned of the shea tree, its nuts harvested exclusively by women and the unmatched properties of shea butter, L’OCCITANE’s commitment to empowering women began, paving the way for a future of supporting women in the workplace. The L’OCCITANE Foundation was created in 2006 in order to drive the brand’s philanthropic initiatives, particularly with regards to the women in Burkina Faso. In Burkina Faso, women play a vital role in the country’s economic and social development, yet around 3.7 million women in Burkina Faso live in poverty to this day. The brand has been working to improve the lives and working conditions of Burkinabe women, building long-term, 100% Fair-Trade partnerships to provide education and resources, as well as a fair-price for the several hundred tons of shea butter they produce.
For each Give Back Hand Cream Trio (£22.50) sold from 2nd February, L’OCCITANE will be donating £2 to Women’s Aid. Check out https://uk.loccitane.com
