Historic vows Bramall Hall in Stockport, Greater Manchester, is currently undergoing restoration work. The charming black-and-white timber-framed Tudor manor house, set within 70 acres of parkland, is having repairs carried out to protect the Hall and its irreplaceable collections from further damage caused by water leaks. Bramall Hall is a beautiful wedding venue, featuring traditional stainedglass windows and stone-flagged flooring. Ceremonies take place in front of an impressive fireplace, which looks stunning in photographs. The space can accommodate up to 75 guests for a civil ceremony, or up to 60 guests for a ceremony combined with a wedding breakfast. For more information, visit stockportevents.co.uk Boho chic Worden Hall, located in the heart of the award-winning grounds of Worden Park in Leyland, opened its doors for two wedding fairs earlier this year. Couples were invited to explore the stunning Grade II listed venue and discover its rustic and versatile Barn function room, the Clocktower Bar, the Courtyard Atrium and the beautiful formal gardens that surround the hall. Worden Hall offers couples a complete wedding experience, from romantic and intimate ceremonies to elegant wedding breakfasts and joyful receptions. Alongside its full-day package, couples can also take advantage of twilight packages for evening weddings booked within 12 months of their wedding date, as well as ‘Why Wait?’ Packages for those looking to tie the knot within three months. WILDLIFE WELLNESS The award-winning Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa in the Lake District has launched a new wellness programme that brings together the therapeutic benefits of animal interaction with luxury spa treatments. The new Herdy Half Spa Day Package combines a 30-minute meet-and-greet with the hotel’s friendly animals at its on-site Wildlife Park, including the beloved Herdwick sheep, Hebridean sheep, dwarf zebu and alpacas, followed by a two-course lunch and two hours of access to the hotel’s spa facilities. Lorela Movileanu, the spa manager at Armathwaite Hall, explains: “We’ve long understood the powerful connection between spending time with animals and improved mental wellbeing. In an era where stress and anxiety have become increasingly prevalent, research shows that animal interaction can significantly reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure and promote feelings of calm. By pairing this with our tranquil spa environment and the natural beauty of the Lake District, we’re offering guests a complete reset for both mind and body.” To find out more, visit armathwaite-hall.com NEWS Nearlywed Catch up on news from around the North West emmabillsborough.com 6

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD Paul Leonard, head chef at Forest Side in Grasmere, represented North West England in the new series of Great British Menu. Competing in the North West heat, Paul created dishes inspired by this year’s theme, which celebrates British films and filmmakers connected to each chef’s region. Paul said: “It really is such an honour to represent North West England on Great British Menu. The region has a really strong identity with incredible produce, and I’m proud to showcase that on a national stage. The theme this year was really good fun and definitely got the cogs turning in terms of new and creative ways to present my food.” Paul brings to the competition the experience of leading one of the Lake District’s most acclaimed restaurants. Forest Side holds both a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star, recognition not only of the precision and creativity of its cooking, but also of its strong commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing. romance Gilded Charlotte and Adam celebrated their love at Park Hall Hotel & Spa, surrounded by a dreamy palette of purple, gold, and ivory Images courtesy of Wilder Photography Charlotte and Adam met at the gym and felt an instant connection. Adam later proposed at one of Charlotte’s favourite places, Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, by the beach. The couple chose Park Hall Hotel & Spa because it was conveniently located for guests travelling from Wigan, but they were also drawn to the idea of having a banquet feast instead of a traditional three-course meal. “We wanted something different and lots of room for entertainment,” says Charlotte. “Everyone knows my favourite colour is purple, so there was only one winner! We chose purple, gold, champagne and ivory hues throughout.” They opted for purple and ivory flower bombs, while Charlotte’s maid-of-honour wore light purple to complement the theme. “As it was a medieval hall, we fully embraced the theme and incorporated lots of medievalinspired details,” explains Charlotte. “We had purple and black goblets as favours, with our table names incorporated onto them. I made a shot wall with miniature bottles of Baileys, each with name tags and table numbers on the back. We included our family coat of arms on all our stationery and named one person from each table to be a jester. They were greeted at their place setting with a jester’s hat, a list of instructions and rules to follow, and a bag of gold coins to buy drinks for their table.” To continue the theme, the couple served a banquet feast featuring beef, spatchcock chicken, mini hamburgers, vegetables, potatoes, and flatbreads with hummus. “We also had canapés after the reception, including mini fish and chips and chicken tikka pieces,” recalls Charlotte. “As big cocktail lovers, we designed three jugs of cocktails for each table.” Charlotte wore a gown called Lillibet Gleaming by Allure, from Willow & Sage Bridal Boutique. “The detailing on this structured, strapless ballgown was absolute perfection,” she says. “It was an A-line ivory dress, and I added removable offthe-shoulder straps. It was the first dress I tried on after seeing it online, and even after trying 15 more, I knew it was the one. I loved the intricate detailing in the fabric, as well as the buttoned back and train.” Adam wore a black three-piece tuxedo by Sawyers & Hendricks, with the waistcoat and bow tie made from the same material as Charlotte’s dress. The groomsmen wore the same style of suit with black waistcoats and purple satin bow ties. The flowergirl wore a simple ivory dress with a bow and waistband made from the same material as Charlotte’s gown. To keep guests entertained, the couple hired a magician, Scoop Magic, as well as fire breathers, outdoor carnival games and axe throwing from Active Aardvark Activities. They also booked guitarist and singer Danny King and singing waiters from Silver Service Singers. Charlotte’s dad even surprised guests with a performance on his guitar. “Singing with my dad in front of all my loved ones was such a special moment, especially as it wasn’t planned,” shares Charlotte. “My horses also made an appearance after the ceremony, which was wonderful.” The couple’s top tip for anyone planning their wedding is to make it your day and plan what you love. “Everyone will be happy if you are,” Charlotte adds. “Include something people will remember and talk about for years. I had visions of things I couldn’t find or buy, so I made them myself.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

Timeless neutrals Abi and Dan’s wedding at Mitton Hall was a vision of soft, timeless elegance, with a neutral palette kissed by gentle shades of nude and taupe Images courtesy of Nettlespie Photography REAL WEDDINGS 29

Abi and Dan met online and their relationship quickly blossomed. When it came time to propose, Dan organised a holiday to Mexico and planned a day trip to the natural cenotes. At the very last minute, he decided this would be the perfect place to ask the question. He left Abi waiting at reception for the coach while he ran back to their room to grab the ring and attempted to video call her dad and stepdad to ask their permission. With the time difference, neither could answer, so he sent them a video message instead, hoping for their blessing before he proposed. As they were deep in the Mexican forest, they wouldn’t see the replies until they returned to the hotel – by which time he had already popped the question. After ziplining into a natural river and swimming beneath a waterfall that felt straight out of a David Attenborough documentary, Dan asked Abi to be his wife. “I was completely caught off guard,” she says. “It was truly the perfect way he could have asked and of course my family were always going to say yes.” When choosing a venue, the couple instantly fell in love with Mitton Hall. They adored its blend of historic charm and modern elegance. “It felt like the perfect combination of our two styles,” says Abi. 30

“The team were so warm and friendly and never pushed for a hard sell. They took a genuine interest in us as a couple.” They styled the day in a neutral nude and taupe palette, working with florist Stef from Honeys Hideaway to bring their vision to life. “She was open to all my ideas and found innovative ways to make them even more breathtaking,” shares Abi. Much of the décor was handmade by the couple, with their spare room filled for nearly a year with DIY projects including name cards, wedding favours, confetti and the seating plan. Food was a priority for the couple. Guests enjoyed large roaming canapés followed by a threecourse sit-down meal. Instead of a plated dessert, Abi and Dan served their wedding cake alongside a dessert table filled with blondies and brownies from Cinderbake. In the evening, Mitton Hall provided sausage and bacon sandwiches with chips to ensure everyone ended the night well fed. Abi wore D3009 by Essense of Australia. Originally, she had planned to wear her grandmother’s lace wedding dress, handmade in Malta, but sadly it had been given away during her gran’s battle with dementia. When searching for her own gown at Dreamcatcher Bridal Boutique in Kirkham, she described her grandmother’s dress as her inspiration. As she narrowed it down to two options, the boutique team suggested trying on a discontinued gown they had recently taken off the shop floor. The moment Abi put it on, she was overwhelmed. “It was as close as I could ever get to my gran’s dress,” says Abi. “I didn’t want to take it off. I know she would have absolutely loved it.” Dan chose a jacket and waistcoat from Slater Menswear, trousers from Next and shoes from Hugo Boss. The bridesmaids wore one-shoulder, floor-length gowns from JJ’s House. For entertainment, Darren Robinson Magician performed during the drinks reception, keeping guests laughing and amazed. A live singer and guitarist followed the meal, warming up the crowd before Abi’s father-in-law surprised everyone with a song he had written and practised for months in their honour. “It truly took our breath away,” says Abi. “The reaction from all our guests was electric. The evening continued with Paddy Slater singing for us before The DFC Experience delivered a showstopping DJ and live singer set.” REAL WEDDINGS 31

One fine day Emma and Adam tied the knot at Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa in March Images courtesy of Weddings by Mark It wasn’t until Emma and Adam met for their first date having matched on Tinder that they realised they’d been in touch before! Emma had messaged via Adam’s business page six months earlier to ask for a quote on some home renovations... she never received a response! They soon put that behind them though, and love blossomed. Adam proposed to Emma in Krakow six years later and the couple began to look for a wedding venue. “We loved Grosvenor Pulford the moment we saw it online,” Emma says. “It was set among beautiful countryside and the luxurious yet homely decor was exactly what we’d been looking for.” The couple styled their day with an understated elegance in a palette of navy and cream to suit the crisp March weather. The Grosvenor Suite was already beautiful, but AA Decorative Events managed to elevate it with ivory rose flower arches, cherry blossom trees and tall candle lanterns to frame the aisle. “We then utilised the cherry blossom trees as centrepieces for the wedding breakfast, along with additional mirrored centrepieces and tea light candelabras,” Emma explains. The newlyweds hosted a cocktail reception after the ceremony with mini shepherds’ pies, mushroom arancini and vegetable spring roll canapés. Guests could choose from espresso Martinis, strawberry daiquiris, mojitos, and old fashioneds. The main event started with cream of tomato and basil soup, followed by chicken breast with Rossini’s cream leeks, and green beans, finished with sticky toffee pudding. The bride wore Isla by Sassi Holford in ivory with a fitted corset and silk skirt. “It was perfect for me, giving me that understated elegant look I’d always dreamed of,” Emma shares. “It was the first dress I tried on in the first bridal boutique I went to!” Adam wore a navy blue suit by Paul Andrew paired with a gold tie. His groomsmen wore matching suits and finished theirs with navy patterned ties. The bridesmaids were also dressed in navy in the shape of maxi dresses with a high split leg. “They were a great mix of sophisticated and sexy,” Emma remembers. Emma and Adam were keen for the guests to feel engaged all day, so they had two main focuses: food and music. “During the cocktail reception we had an amazing acoustic guitarist and singer,” Emma tells us. Later, as the last dessert plate of the wedding breakfast was being served, the Silver Service Waiters began their surprise performance. “These guys really made our day something special,” Emma remembers. “They got our guests up and dancing – it was a great way to shake off the after-dinner lull.” Live band Song Pilots kicked off the evening’s celebrations and took them through to the wee small hours with indie and rock hits. “Their set list was totally aligned to our taste, and the dancefloor was constantly packed with everyone having the best time,” Emma says. The couple booked their wedding date at the last minute, giving them just 11 weeks to organise it. “You need to understand your budget up front and allocate it accordingly,” Emma advises. “I used Excel to keep track of the suppliers, costs etc., to keep me on course. The best advice we can give is to remember what the day is really about: celebrating your love with the people closest to you. If things go wrong (which they will) just take it in your stride and try not to sweat the small stuff. The imperfections of the day actually end up making the funniest stories!” REAL WEDDINGS 35
