More than BATH BOMBS Beauty editor Kelly Andrews experienced a wedding scent consultation with Lush discovering there’s much more to this British brand than you might expect Did you know that perennially popular cosmetics brand Lush has your big-day beauty needs covered from the day you start planning to the day you return from your honeymoon? We certainly didn’t until beauty editor Kelly Andrews popped into her local Lush store in Lakeside for a wedding scent consultation with the lovely Lucy. Here’s everything she discovered along the way, and it’s going to blow your mind! ALL ABOUT YOU I sat down with Lucy at Lush Lakeside’s consultation station and we started chatting about what brides might be looking for in a wedding day signature scent. The power of our olfactory memory is a powerful thing with certain scents or groups of odors linking us to moments in our past in a unique way. What Lush seeks to do with this consultation is create that for each bride allowing you to add a fragrance to your signature scent arsenal that will forever transport you back to the big day. It’s an experience tailored to you, so just like any other appointment you’ve scheduled along your planning journey, come armed with information. Your consultant will ask you about your attire, the season you’re set to wed, your palette, your venue, your music, even your partner, and your unique love story. It might be challenging, but if you could describe your big-day vision in three words, what would they be? If there’s a special story behind how you met, or how your partner proposed, perhaps this will help you to narrow down the scent you want to imbue your day with. For example, did they pop the question over a picnic in the park? Then Lush’s fragrance, Grass, could be the one for you. Lush’s range has expanded dramatically over recent years, in no small part due to the team of perfumiers currently at the helm of their creation. With this particular area of expertise at a premium with only a select few in the world, Lush can boast three in their employ. They delight in creating thoughtful fragrances with a story behind each and together have produced a core range of white label scents along with a black label premium range. Their ingredients are pure and simple, featuring hand-blended essential oils all safe to use on skin. We know this as Lush is passionate about not testing on animals, instead testing on human skin cells. What’s more, all ingredients are ethically sourced and where they’re imported from far flung destinations, it’s done so on the proviso that this will benefit the produce’s local community. For example, vanilla is sourced from Madagascar as the government works hard to ensure its quality, while trading from this source helps to reduce illegal smuggling. LET’S EXPLORE All of Lush’s fragrances are unisex and could dry down differently on both of you reflecting all the ways you complement each other in the harmony of your relationship. Let’s take a look at the premium black label fragrances. 1000 Kisses Deep A spark of clean mandarin followed by a deep amber perfume with labdanum. This was the first one I tried and took me by surprise! It blew away my preconceptions of how a Lush fragrance would smell and I instantly fell in love with its distinctive freshness. Confetti Rose, violet and coffee bring this fragrance to life to mirror the scent of traditional wedding favour favourite – sugared almonds. Fun fact: In Italy, sugared almonds are known as confetti! The creator of this fragrance wore it for her own wedding day, and it represents three stages of a relationship: violet for innocence, rose for sensuality and sandalwood for the comfort and solidity of marriage. Love Capturing the fun, flirty side of love, this scent is reminiscent of romance with rose absolute. It represents the nostalgia of a relationship with jasmine, a known aphrodisiac (ooh-er!), ylang ylang and bergamot, embracing the future, while lemongrass puts a spring in your step. Sweet Pea One of Lush’s newer fragrances, Sweet Pea is the result of a 2021 Bridgerton collab, which became so popular it was added to the permanent wedding fragrance collection. Reminiscent of a florist, it represents a bridal bouquet with rosemary connecting to the olfactive memory. Also check out... Alina Inspired by the book 100 Years of Life, white label scent Alina represents the generations of women who offer support to a bride during her wedding preparations. It’s a lovely one to wear in the build-up to the big day to celebrate your loved ones and also makes for a great bridesmaids’ gift, especially when presented in a gorgeous knot wrap. 80
