Your London Wedding - November/December 2020 (Issue 74)

46 We had a clear view of what we wanted: a London wedding, the city where our story began, and a party of epic proportions! Our church welcomed us with open arms, so we then looked for a venue we could get to by foot, creating a carnival-style procession through the streets of London. For us, No.29 Battersea Power Station was perfect with its cool vibe and indoor and outdoor spaces. The walk to the reception complete with alcoholic ice pops and the sound of beeping horns and cheers set the tone for the party. It still brings a smile to our faces thinking about it now. Flowers were high up the priority list, and I had spent many weekends at New Covent Garden Flower Market talking to traders about the best blooms for August. That’s where I fell in love with peonies. The venue recommended Michele Ferriday Flowers, and she completely understood my vision. On the day, I couldn’t believe that what I had dreamed up in my head had come to life. The table plan featured my two favourite things: wine and flowers! It was one of the only DIY projects I did that I was pleased with – probably because we had to drink all the wine to make it happen! The table names were based on corresponding times in our lives, showing our journey to the wedding day. It was a great conversation-starter. We decided on a cheese stack instead of cake, and I’m so pleased we did! I’m a massive cheese fan so the idea of have six wheels of my favourite food was a no-brainer. It was a great addition to the evening offering too.
