CREATIVE CATERING • WEDDINGS • COLLABORATIONS • PRIVATE DINING • CONSULTATION • EVENTS THEMODERNTABLE.CO.UK • HELLO@THEMODERNTABLE.CO.UK • @THE_MODERN_TABLE The Modern Table offers thoughtful catering for weddings, parties and corporate events The The Modern Table is a Cambridgebased catering company creating fresh, seasonal food for every kind of occasion, from unforgettable weddings and relaxed private parties to polished corporate events. Known for its discreet service and thoughtful approach, the team delivers bespoke experiences that feel both original and effortlessly accommodating. Owner Elizabeth Young explains: “I grew up in New Zealand, where food and drink were always central to life. Like most Antipodeans, eating together was a daily ritual, and my love of feeding people comes directly from my grandparents. Their classic cooking, baking, pickling and preserving left a lasting impression on me. After training and working in fine dining restaurants in Australia, a growing desire to travel led me to cook aboard private superyachts, combining food with exploration and adventure. Eventually, I made Cambridge home. From 2012, I was a partner in a local hospitality business, helping to expand and open a contemporary café, before stepping away in 2019 to begin a new chapter. That’s when The Modern Table was born. My approach is simple: every client and event is unique, so menus and service are thoughtfully tailored to each brief. We take the time to understand what our clients want and need, designing bespoke, one-off menus that feel personal, memorable and full of flavour. There’s no standard list to choose from, just fresh ideas, original dishes and a fun, seamless experience created especially for you. I can’t wait to hear about your next celebration.” FRESHLY PERSONAL To find out more, visit themoderntable.co.uk

A GRAND RETURN Hinchingbrooke House boasts a rich and layered history spanning nearly 1,000 years, evolving from a medieval religious site into one of Cambridgeshire’s most notable historic houses. Before the pandemic, weddings were regularly held at the house, but celebrations unfortunately came to a halt during the shutdown and did not resume afterwards. This year, however, HBK Events, run by the school, is relaunching weddings at Hinchingbrooke House, with profits helping to support the upkeep of the historic building as well as the wider school community. The house has undergone refurbishment, and some much-needed tender loving care, and is now ready to reopen its doors to couples once again. A limited selection of late-availability 2026 wedding dates is currently being offered at discounted rates. For more information about Hinchingbrooke House, visit hbkevents.co.uk Bridal afterglow Luxury bridalwear brand Maria Callisto has unveiled a new sustainable sleepwear collection for brides, crafted from surplus silk originally used in designer wedding dresses. Made in England, the 12-piece collection, Illusory Desire, is designed for the modern bride, with contemporary silhouettes that blend elegance with ease. Each piece is created from reclaimed luxury silk, giving new life to premium bridal fabrics that might otherwise go unused. Rather than creating disposable bridalwear, Maria Callisto positions its designs as part of a ritual wardrobe, pieces intended to be slept in, celebrated in, and returned to long after the wedding day has passed. Maria Igwebuike, founder of Maria Callisto, said: “The night before a wedding is deeply emotional, yet it’s rarely designed for. Maria Callisto gives new life to wedding dresses that would otherwise go to waste, transforming them into silk pieces meant to be worn far beyond one day.” The collection is available exclusively at mariacallisto.com TIMELESS BRIDAL BEAUTY Multi-award-winning bridal hair and makeup artist Ieva Genovesi, based in Cambridge, has recently taken home an award at the Hitched Wedding Awards. This award means the world to me because it’s based on your love, your testimonials and your beautiful words. ELEGANCE Timeless Erika and Connor celebrated their love with a timeless and elegant wedding at Swynford Manor, featuring delicate touches of white and baby blue throughout Images courtesy of October James Photography Erika and Connor met through mutual friends, and from the start their conversation flowed effortlessly. Their first date, dinner followed by a trip to the beach, was Erika’s dream date. “I loved that Connor planned the day around the things I enjoy most,” Erika says. “That thoughtfulness has carried on throughout our relationship. He always pays attention to what matters to me.” Connor proposed in 2022 during a weekend away to celebrate their fourth anniversary. “We love marking special occasions with trips,” Erika explains. “Connor told me he’d arranged for the hotel’s reception to take some photos of us, and they suggested a beautiful backdrop.” The couple were led into the chapel, where the lights were dimmed and rose petals scattered across a table. As they reached the front, Connor dropped to one knee. “It was so unexpected,” adds Erika. “I cried with joy, it was such a special moment.” When it came to choosing a venue, the couple viewed several before Erika discovered Swynford Manor online. “As soon as we stepped inside, we knew,” she says. Flooded with natural light, the modern reception room felt like a blank canvas they could personalise. The food was equally important. “We wanted something exciting and different,” shares Erika. “We absolutely loved their menu and drinks options.” They chose an elegant theme with touches of white and baby blue woven throughout the day. Clear charger plates dressed the tables, while their sweetheart table was framed by a white faux-flower arch, with matching blooms used across the venue for a cohesive look. An easel from GDC Weddings & Events displayed their table plan, alongside individually printed place cards from Mea Prints Studio. Tall black stands topped with white roses and gypsophila created striking centrepieces. Guests were transported from the church to Swynford Manor by coach, while Erika and Connor travelled in a white Rolls-Royce Phantom VII. Their cake, created by Amber at Love Wedding Cakes, was a three-tier white design with fondant icing and delicate sugar flowers in white and pale blue. Their initials were embossed on the middle tier, and each layer featured a different flavour. Erika wore a lace mermaid-style gown called Amy from Pure Brides’ Iconic collection. Wanting a more fitted silhouette rather than a princess gown, she knew almost instantly it was the one. The dress originally featured off-the-shoulder sleeves, but seamstress Michel Mulcahy redesigned it with elegant long lace sleeves using the same fabric. Connor complemented her look with a three-piece blue suit and waistcoat from Moss, while the maid-of-honour wore a pale blue Six Stories gown. Music played a huge part of their day. During the drinks reception, live singer Amy Morris performed alongside a keyboard player. “I found Amy on social media and fell in love with her voice,” says Erika. “Our guests kept commenting on how beautiful it was.” In the evening, Lovelight Entertainment took over the party, joined by saxophonist Greg, known as The Sax. After sharing playlists in advance, the couple enjoyed a dancefloor packed all night. “I think I left for about 10 minutes in total,” Erika laughs. A photo booth from Picture Perfect Pod added another layer of fun, keeping guests entertained throughout the evening. Their standout moment was the first dance, which was secretly choreographed in advance as a surprise for their guests. “It was so hard not telling anyone,” Erika says. “But it went better than we ever imagined, especially the lift at the end! Despite having no previous dance experience, Connor mastered the routine.” The couple credit their suppliers, particularly October James Photography and content creator The Mystery Guest, for creating such a relaxed atmosphere. “They hyped us up, made us laugh and made us feel completely at ease,” explains Erika. From the heartfelt best man’s speech to guests who danced the night away, Erika and Connor’s celebration was everything they had dreamed of. It was elegant, joyful and filled with unforgettable moments. REAL WEDDINGS 23

Like many modern couples, Amy and Gary met online. Their relationship quickly blossomed, and in 2023 Gary popped the question beside a lake after a romantic picnic. He asked a passerby to take a photo of them and, as they waited for the picture to be taken, Gary got down on one knee. The couple viewed several venues, but Kimberley Hall stood out straight away. “We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony, weather permitting, but the music room inside was beautiful as a backup option,” says Amy. “The wedding planners, Becca and SJ, were lovely, and we felt confident they would help us create the wedding of our dreams.” They chose a romantic, elegant theme with ivory and lilac accents throughout. A stunning wedding arch was created using a mixture of real and silk flowers, including roses and wisteria. Trailing foliage decorated the space, while centrepieces featured flowers displayed on tall stands with box candles placed beneath. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed sustainable canapés served with prosecco, beer or elderflower pressé. For the wedding breakfast, REAL WEDDINGS 33

the couple chose slow-roast pork belly followed by summer pudding for dessert. In the evening, bacon and sausage baps, with a vegetarian option, were served alongside their wedding cake. Amy tried on 72 dresses but never found one that felt quite right. “I decided the only way forward was to have my dress made bespoke,” she says. “I approached Camilla Brides in Norwich, who worked with me to create my gown exactly as I’d imagined.” Gary complemented Amy’s gown with a threepiece grey suit from Pure Suits, while his groomsmen wore navy versions. The three bridesmaids chose floor-length, one-shoulder gowns in varying shades of lilac from JJ’s House. To keep guests entertained, the couple hired string quartet Kavolini to perform before and after the ceremony. In the evening, DJ KSD Events played throughout the reception, and a rustic photo booth provided fun props such as feathers and balloons for guests to pose with. “There were so many amazing moments,” says Amy. “From seeing Gary waiting at the end of the aisle, to signing the register, to an energetic dance session to Pink Pony Club late into the evening.” Amy and Gary share their top tip for couples planning their wedding. “Agree on a budget and use a spreadsheet to track what you’re spending,” explains Amy. “Above all, don’t get fixated on the little details, on the day, they really won’t matter!” 34
