Every bedroom will have been carefully updated, and public areas revamped. Located close to Windsor Castle, the hotel boasts 108 bedrooms and holds the largest event space in central Windsor. The extensive refurbishment has been curated by interior designers 3DReid, with the interiors drawing inspiration from classic British design with a nod to the hotel’s Georgian heritage. Layered textures, chintz fabrics, and brass detailing will appear alongside reinstated architectural features including traditional wall panelling. All bedrooms will combine bold patterns, playful colour and contemporary artwork with thoughtful updated amenities such as Roberts radios and in-room coffee machines. The Mews bedrooms, located on the site of the hotel’s former stables, will offer six elevated guest rooms, including suites with separate lounge areas, providing a more secluded stay. Throughout the hotel, artwork and detailing will weave in subtle references to the building’s history and Windsor’s wonderful character. At the heart of the hotel’s next chapter is Penningtons, a new restaurant and bar celebrating the hotel’s heritage as Windsor’s original inn. Penningtons champions British cuisine and local provenance in a relaxed yet polished setting. The menu will boast familiar British classics with playful twists. A signature feature is a collection of reimagined British pies, alongside seasonal dishes, a traditional Sunday roast and a dessert trolley. Afternoon tea will form a central part of the experience for visitors exploring Windsor, and the extensive cocktail list has been designed by renowned flavourist and author of The Cocktail Cabinet, Zoe Burgess. Made in BERKSHIRE Anne-Marie and Joe chose a pastel colour theme to decorate their day held at Wasing Park Images courtesy of Studio Rouge Anne-Marie and Joe met via the dating app Hinge and became engaged during a walk in the Lake District. “Joe is from there, and it’s one of our favourite places to visit, so it was perfect,” Anne-Marie tells us. The couple chose Wasing Park in Berkshire as their venue. “We visited 14 venues and couldn’t believe our luck when we found Wasing Park, which had a Castle Barn and so many other beautiful spaces in the grounds,” they tell us. “It also had the Parish Church of St Nicholas on-site where we held our ceremony, and plenty of accommodation so it was perfect for us.” Anne-Marie and Joe chose pastel colours to decorate their day and set a black-tie dress code. “We had an amazing florist who created our beautiful bouquets and table decorations with pastel varieties,” Anne-Marie tells us. “We designed our own stationery in keeping with the floral theme.” A highlight was the couple’s cake design. “We had plenty of beautiful flowers placed around two Colin the Caterpillar cakes presented on a handmade log stand that was created by my father-in-law Matt Buckley,” Anne-Marie says. The talented team at Wasing Park provided the food and drink. “Our guests tucked into canapés before a wedding breakfast of scallops followed by duck and baked Alaska, and pizza during the evening,” Anne-Marie says. “It tasted amazing, and we had so many compliments from our guests!” One of the best parts of their special day was the roaming band who performed throughout dinner. “We had a band called Tux Fizz who got all of our guests on their feet dancing before we’d even eaten!” they tell us. Anne-Marie chose a stunning bridal dress from the brand Made with Love. “I had seen the dress online and knew I preferred a simple design,” she tells us. “I hadn’t seen anything else similar. I tried some others on, but I just kept coming back to this one.” Joe and his groomsmen wore black tuxedos, and the couple’s bridesmaids wore full-length dresses in a duck egg blue shade. City lovin’ Caitlin and Lachie chose the dramatic backdrop of Oxford’s famous Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford, as the historic venue for their big day Images courtesy of V&H Photography 38
“Everyone will tell you that your wedding day will go by so quickly, and they’re right. Be sure to live in the moment, and most importantly, make time for each other.” - Lachie REAL WEDDINGS 39
Caitlin and Lachie met at Oxford University at a welcome event for Clarendon Scholars, a prestigious scholarship that they both received in 2021. “We discovered that we were both in Merton College, so we spent plenty of time together at formal dinners and study sessions,” they tell us. Lachie proposed in the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park in March 2024, which is Caitlin’s favourite place in New Zealand. “Aoraki also holds a special place in my heart because it’s close to where I grew up, and my family home was adorned with paintings of this region that were produced by my great-grandfather, a renowned landscape artist called Aston Greathead,” Lachie tells us. “I didn’t want Caitlin to suspect that I was going to propose, so I convinced her that we were off on a hike, but I secretly packed a suitcase with evening wear for a post-engagement dinner at The Hermitage (the walls of which are also adorned with my great-grandfather’s paintings). During the walk, we stopped for photo opportunities with Mount Sefton as the backdrop. As I popped the question, and she said yes, there was a spectacular avalanche in the distance, which was a great substitute for fireworks! That evening we stayed at The Hermitage, which offered uninterrupted views of Aoraki at sunrise from our bed.” The couple chose Merton College Chapel for their ceremony, and the pretty college gardens for their reception. “Being the scene for the start of our love story, Merton was an obvious choice,” they tell us. “Our guests then moved to the Old Schools’ Quad at the Bodleian Libraries for a second drinks reception, which was followed by dinner and dancing in the Divinity School. We chose these spectacular venues as we wanted to give everybody who had travelled from far away a taste of Oxford’s rich history and stunning architecture.” Caitlin and Lachie chose a colour palette of green and white with gold accents for an elegant and timeless feel. “We wanted to add the wow factor with our flowers, so we opted for a dramatic arch adorned with white roses, which our guests entered the ceremony through,” they tell us. “For our reception, we chose tall table arrangements, which filled the venue and meant our guests could talk to one another across the tables.” “Lachie has an artistic eye, so he designed all of our stationery, with a rose and fern symbolising the coming together of two nations – England and New Zealand,” Caitlin says. “This theme continued through our floral arrangements which contained both the delicate white roses and wild green fern.” 40
