AND BEAUTIFUL Bold, bright Rach and Greg celebrated their Bristol city-centre nuptials with an on-trend vibrant colour palette Images courtesy of Adam Barnard Photography Greg proposed to Rachel seven years into their relationship on Panglao Island in the Philippines. The couple took a romantic stroll along the beach after their evening meal, and he took her completely by surprise! “Thankfully she said, ‘yes,’” Greg shares. The two set about looking for a wedding venue that would be convenient both for guests living in Bristol and for those coming to stay. “We wanted a central location with a relaxed atmosphere that didn’t feel too ‘weddingy’,” Greg explains. “As soon as we met Daniella, our wedding planner at Armada House, we knew it was the right place. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to get married.” With a cool inner-city vibe, the palette was colour itself, with vibrant splashes of purple, orange and pink. The flowers too were bursting with colour along the bannisters of the grand staircase and in front of the fireplace in the ceremony room. The couple decided against traditional floral centrepieces, instead opting for a collection of quirky candle holders, ornaments and only a few bud vases. The super-fun decor also featured neon signs, disco balls and Rach’s homemade fringe wall, used for the photo booth backdrop. Paxton and Brown catered the wedding feast, which featured sharing plates of aromatic spiced beef sirloin and chicken shawarma served with potatoes, sauces and salads. Guests then tucked into a dessert table of chocolate mousse cups, macarons and cupcakes alongside the big-day bake. By the time the evening celebrations rolled in, guests were ready for a top-up, so the couple served a posh ploughman’s with breads, meats, cheeses, olives, sausage rolls, koftas and salads. “Our guests said it was the best wedding food they’d ever had,” Greg remembers. The bride wore a gown by Unbridled from Waxflower in Clifton. “Kathy and the team were amazing in helping her choose a dress to suit her style and one that she felt comfortable in,” Greg says. She personalised her look with a pair of Dr Martens. The couple’s sixyear-old niece was a gorgeous bridesmaid and wore a white dress with a big bow. The groom wore a sage-green tailored suit. “I knew I wanted to wear green of some sort, and I’d looked at various suit offerings, but they just didn’t fit or look right,” Greg explains. “As soon as I saw this suit, I just knew it was the one. It suited a warm wedding, and as a three-piece suit it worked well.” Greg’s groomsmen were dressed to match him. A playlist curated by Rach’s uncle and auntie played throughout the rooftop drinks reception. “It was the perfect location, with lovely weather and plenty of space,” Greg shares. DJ Lloyd Kay took over the entertainment during the evening, playing everything from 90s dance classics to hip hop and RnB, which culminated in a set of drum and bass. The couple also provided beer pong to entertain guests as well as a photo booth. When we asked Greg for his highlight, he replied: “That Rach turned up!” Overall, though, the couple were simply thrilled that all of their family and friends could be together to celebrate their special day, especially those they don’t get to see as often as they’d like. “The day was everything we could have ever wanted,” Greg remembers. Lauren and Dave met through friends when they were young and became a couple when they were 19. Dave proposed in September 2023, during a holiday in Lake Como, Italy. “He chose a private terrace at the Villa Cipressi gardens as the backdrop,” Lauren tells us. “I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect proposal.” The couple enjoyed a church ceremony at Lauren’s local village church, where she grew up, and where her mum is buried, followed by a marquee reception at Dave’s family farm in Hartland. “The field we used for our wedding enjoys views across Lundy,” Lauren says. “It’s also where we walk our dog every day.” Their chosen colour theme was soft blue, styled with wildflowers. “Our marquee wedding had a relaxed, countryside feel with lawn games and hay bales,” Lauren tells us. “The marquee featured clear sides, a partially clear roof, festoon lighting suspended from the ceiling and a bell tent which added a fantastic social space. The outside entrance was lined with milk churns filled with wildflowers, and lanterns led to a spectacular floral arch. We hired wooden trestle tables and rustic-style chairs from the marquee company, too.” Lauren and Dave created a table for their welcome drinks using whiskey barrels and wooden planks with cocktails in large Kilner jars, and tin baths holding beers and ales. “Outside, we displayed a wooden photo frame and a cartwheel for our table plan,” Lauren says. “Our tables were named after countries we have travelled to together, and showed a picture of us there.” A highlight of their décor was a large, two-tier hanging floral centrepiece in the marquee, which Lauren’s dad had made, and Lauren had decorated with faux, artificial garlands in bright colours. “We also had a photo wall, a snack wall and a handmade wooden order of the day,” Lauren tells us. “On the tables we had white runners with glass candlesticks and blue taper candles, plus bud vases filled with wildflowers. I created a ‘newlywed post’ at each guest’s table setting, which included the menu, timings of the day, a special thank you to our parents and memories of loved ones, plus a word search and guest awards.” Guests tucked into canapés and welcome drinks. The wedding breakfast started with charcuterie sharing boards, followed by carved mixed meats with stuffing, roast potatoes, and chickpea and Caprese salads. “For dessert, we had black cherry torte, white chocolate and raspberry ganache brownie, and luxury fruit-set cheesecakes with cream,” Lauren says. “We also had our local pub provide the bar service during the day and evening.” 30
Lauren wore a crepe column sheath dress featuring side cut-outs, a low back, and a lace train. “I wore a cathedral-length veil and some of my mum’s jewellery, and I carried a photograph of her in my bridal bouquet,” she says. “Dave wore a navy tweed three-piece, slim-fit suit teamed with a tie and white shirt, and our groomsmen wore the same along with brown brogues, personalised cufflinks, and tie clips.” The couple purchased their pageboy suits from H&M, and their bridesmaids wore powder blue dresses in different styles.” Guests were entertained by the magician Graham Prigg performing close-up tricks. “Everybody loved him, and it was a great way for our loved ones who did not know each other to mingle,” Lauren tells us. “Our five-year-old nephew became the magician’s sidekick! We also had a DJ during the day and evening who kept everybody dancing until the early hours of the morning. The Cove Club Wedding & Party Band performed our first dance which was The One by Kodaline.” “We received a wonderful surprise gift on our wedding day, a wooden plaque suspended above our top table featuring our names, wedding date, a map of Lake Como and family keepsakes.” - Lauren and Dave REAL WEDDINGS 31

Oversized flowers made a striking addition for the ‘Alice’ bride, perfectly complementing the unusual spaces at the venue. Meanwhile, the whimsical cake complete with thoughtful, intricate details was surrounded by a Mad Hatter’s tea party table setting for a quirky, playful vibe.
