Your Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Wedding - June/July 2022 (Issue 33)

My Mum had recently retired a few months before the wedding so part of her retirement and lockdown hobbies were finding us pallets that she then treated and hand-stencilled for things like our welcome sign, table plan and order of the day. Because we were getting married in a rustic location, we wanted plenty of natural foliage, eucalyptus and relaxed flowers to suit the feel of the venue. We selected a moongate ceremony backdrop draped in pink material and covered in roses and natural English garden blooms. Candles surrounded the base and this was moved into the evening reception to be used as a Polaroid station for our guests to have their photos taken against. Once we had decided on our Wed of the Roses the me, we chose a mix of red and white roses to showcase the flowers of our home co unties, as well as dusky pink varieties to represent the blending of the two colou rs and our marriage. Because we’re both big sports fans, we knew that we wanted to include some sporting touches. We chose our table names after sporting venues that we had visited together, with Wembley as our top table. We tried to seat our guests on tables whose names might have significance to them such as stadiums of home towns. Our table plan was presented on a wooden pallet which suited our rustic barn theme. We combined our place names with a menu tucked into everyone’s napkins at their seat. There were plenty of sharing options so we wanted to make su re everyone knew what they were eating…and what wine they were drinking with it! REAL WEDDINGS 31
