How can I best conceal these on my wedding day without looking caked in make-up? Jenna says: First, you need to take steps to ensure that your under-eye area is looking its best by preparing your skin before applying any make-up. I recommend using a hydrating eye mask about 30 minutes beforehand, followed by a brightening eye cream. Be sure to drink plenty of water too, as dehydration causes fine lines and wrinkles to deepen. Now it’s time for some make-up. Use a line-smoothing primer, which is applied to the whole face. A good primer for mature skin is Clarins Instant Smooth. Next, apply an under-eye concealer - I like Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. To avoid a cakey look, don’t apply any powder on top, it’s not good for lines or wrinkles. The skin under your eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, and doesn’t need powdering anyway, since oil is only produced around the nose and chin area. If you need to get rid of any darkness under the eyes then a peach colour corrector may be needed instead to avoid multiple layers of concealer. LASH LOVE I'd love to wear false eyelashes on my wedding day to really make my eyes stand out, but I've never managed to successfully apply a set. Do you have any tips? Lucy says: As there’s so much choice available when it comes to lashes, I recommend you look out for a lash band that isn’t too thick and plastic looking, since these will be stiffer and less likely to sit comfortably for the hours required on your wedding day. For bridal lashes I suggest Ardell Faux Mink lashes, or my absolute favourite brand Sweed Lashes, for a real treat. These can be reused time and again, and have the finest strip virtually undetectable as a falsie. While, I’d always recommend your make-up artist applies them for you, if you do find yourself faced with doing your own make-up, then here are some tips for successful application: ❤ Ensure you have the following: Lashes, hand mirror, beauty scissors and a professional lash glue. I recommend Duo Adhesive. ❤ Do your eye make-up first, including eyeliner, to prevent products loosening the glue. ❤ If wearing strip lashes then measure them against the eye before applying your glue and trim accordingly. ❤ It tends to be the corners of lashes that lift, so my absolute top tip is to cut your lashes into three sections. Not only does this make them easier to handle, it also allows you to curve and custom fit your lashes to the contour of your eye. ❤ Apply a thin layer of glue and allow it to go tacky. ❤ Position your hand mirror under your chin and look down into it so you can see the root of your lashes. ❤ Begin by applying the centre section of the lash then the inner corner, and finally position your outer corner section. ❤ Once you’re happy with the lash position allow to dry and set for two minutes before finishing with a coat of your favourite mascara.
