Your Sussex Wedding - June/July 2020 (Issue 85)

86 Local professionals offer advice on looking your big-day best Q&A Beauty MODERN BRIDE I'd love an ultra-modern look for my wedding day hair and make-up to complement my fashion-forward dress. What can you suggest? Chloe says: Trends change so quickly that when it comes to something as unforgettable as your wedding you want to keep a fine balance between timeless styles and being fashion forward. 2020 sees hair take detailing and glitz to a whole new level. To be bang on trend this year upgrade any up or down do with intricate accessories, beads and pearls woven into braids, combs and slides to spruce up classic hair styles. This way, you get the best of both worlds - a timeless hair style that you won’t look back on and regret, paired with something new and fresh that would look just as at home on the runway as at your wedding. Make-up takes a demure turn for this year’s trend, keep it glowing and barely there using natural pink shades. To really make it high fashion add a pop of colour either with a bright lipstick or a wash of eyeshadow. PUMP UP THE VOLUME My hair is particularly fine, but I don't want it looking flat on my wedding day. What can you suggest? Katia says: There are so many ways to bring volume to flat, fine hair. The best way is to start with using the right shampoo, ideally one that’s silicone and sulphate free. I love the OGX range.  Once hair is shampooed and conditioned, flick your hair forward and start drying from the nape of the neck. While doing so, use your fingers as a comb and gently work the hairdryer around each section until you reach the crown. Then dry that area by going against your natural parting. You will instantly see more volume.  Dry shampoo is amazing in between washes. Spray from the root, then with your fingers run through the scalp and massage gently. On your wedding day, a spray of dry shampoo and some discrete back combing is essential to give your hair that extra lift, or a little crimping also works a treat. If you choose a wavy look then your hair will instantly look voluminous. BOHO BABE I'm planning an outdoors boho wedding, but I'm not keen on the idea of wearing my hair down. What style can you suggest to complement my look? Amy says: There are many different interpretations of boho when it comes to hair. I find particularly in the spring/summer months brides are reluctant to wear their hair down, and by having your hair up you’ll keep much cooler. A beautiful alternative would be a low, textured bun or halo braid. Your stylist can adapt these looks to suit your overall style, by weaving some delicate flowers through for example, or adding a hair vine or some simple jewellery into the hair. A braided crown would also work really well or a plaited look. It’s super-important when you have your bridal trial (I usually recommend this takes place eight to 10 weeks in advance) that you have a selection of images you like the look of, then you and your stylist will be able to create the perfect look.
