Your North West Wedding- December 2020/Janaury 2021 (Issue 65)

Yousiff and I chose a three-tiered naked bake from Browns Cakes. It was decorated with gold accents and filled was vanilla, almond, raspberry and lemon. We also had a fruit cake at my mother’s behest, and a Ukrainian Korovai, a traditional wedding bread, to represent my heritage. We’re massive nerds, so each table had its own nerdy theme with personalised terrariums of a film or game we love. The industrial vibe of Holmes Mill combined with how much natural light there was made it the perfect venue for us. The boiler room, where the reception was held, had been turned around for the evening and looked lovely. The staff also provided the catering, which was absolutely delicious. Part of the venue’s charm is they have antique wooden cinema chairs, which look gorgeous but make a loud clatter when you sit down. It took our guests by surprise and got everyone laughing. All the pillars in the room were decorated with fairy lights because who doesn’t love them?! Jennifer and Yousiff met playing Roller Derby and soon became inseparable Images courtesy of Matt Thompson Photography J ennifer and Yousiff met playing Roller Derby. “It’s a contact sport on roller skates,” says Jennifer. “We naturally progressed from friends to a relationship and found we have the same sense of humour and interests.” Yousiff proposed during a drive to the Peak District. “We were on our way to watch the Perseid meteor shower but unfortunately it was a bit cloudy that night,” shares the bride. “As we were getting ready to go, I was sitting in the passenger seat and Yousiff surprised me with a gorgeous sapphire ring and asked me to marry him.” Skates on 32
