Your East Midlands Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 39)

We liked the idea of a barn venue as it fitted with the rustic and DIY feel we were looking for, we loved that Hazel Gap Barn had this whilst still being modern with a relaxed atmosphere too. As we couldn’t decide on one idea for favours, we had 10 different ones for each of the different tables. We wanted to make as many as we could ourselves with the help of our family and friends. Each table had a different theme based around things we enjoy and had special meaning to us. We wanted our table plan to be relatively simple with subtle indicators of what each table was. For centrepieces, we had our signature flowers on each table in a variety of jars, jugs and glasses! Most tables had logs on, which Rich had hand-cut and varnished. We only had ourselves and our parents on the top table as we wanted to keep it small. We wanted a large flower display at the front, which our florist did an amazing job of! I made little jars with Love Heart sweets for our table and hand-stamped some tags with our names on. I loved the idea of a bright bouquet and settled on the coral peonies, lemon roses, and asters. Our florist suggested including blue in the form of delphinium and I also wanted flowing ribbons from the bouquets in pastel colours. We chose our favourite three flavours for our cake: chocolate and caramel, white chocolate and raspberry, and lemon and elderflower. We then had a fruit cake as a cutting cake as Rich wanted something traditional. 36
