Your East Midlands Wedding - April/May 2020 (Issue 37)

Where to say ‘I do’ in Leicester & around GOING LOCAL Olivia Gibson headed for an overnight stay at Kilworth House Hotel & Theatre, and wasn’t disappointed. I ’ve heard so many amazing things about Kilworth House Hotel & Theatre but I didn’t quite prepare for how remarkable it would be. Situated in Leicestershire, this hotel stands proudly surrounded by the beautiful rolling countryside and boasts timeless elegance. As I drove through the gates to the long driveway and tree-lined estate, it was like I travelled back in time to a peaceful haven full of rich wildlife. As I turned the corner, the Grade II listed building came into view and from that moment I knew the stay would be great. FIRST IMPRESSIONS Inside, helpful staff welcomed me and my mum who I got to share this experience with and escorted us to The Marlowe room, which was ours for the night. Inside, there was a four-poster bed, impressive dressing area and plenty of mirrors, which added to the light and airy feel of the space. All around the room was large windows with incredible views of the 38-acre estate; it made for a lovely space to chat and relax. The stunning bathroom was huge with a free-standing bath and shower. After we settled into our room we decided to take a walk around the hotel to discover more – we found many antiques, beautiful artwork and period features. Apart from being a hidden gem, what sets Kilworth House Hotel apart form any other hotel is the open-air theatre for 550 guests to view professional entertainment. With a variety of shows to watch, this space comes alive at every event and has massive canopies that covers the audience and performers. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD After all that walking we difinitely built up quite an appetite and headed down for dinner in The Orangery. For starter, we both went for the seasonal soup of the day, which happened to be the creamy tomato soup. For main, I went with beer-battered plaice served with hand-cut chips – my favourite dish – and I wasn’t disappointed. My overall experience at dinner was lovely; the staff were attentive, and the food was cooked to perfection. The following morning, hot food was cooked upon request for breakfast and there was continental options – I went for an omelette and pastry. For couples looking for a venue in which to say ‘I do’, Kilworth House Hotel could be perfect with incredible ceremony and reception spaces for small and intimate weddings to larger ones.
