Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - March/April 2021 (Issue 30)

We reveal some of the most stunning wedding venues TAWSTOCK COURT, BARNSTAPLE Tawstock Court is a fine Georgian country house with a castle-like appearance situated in 32 acres of grounds and ancient woodland. The courtyard has recently been revamped into a stunning space with festoon lighting, ample seating positioned underneath a canopy of fairylights and a decked area and swinging chairs. Spacious rooms and suites at the front of the building are home to period features and offer panoramic views across the valley. The Panelled Hall that opens out on to the balustrade features carved wooden pillars and a magnificent fireplace. Other areas including the bar are decorated with a more contemporary feel but still with a vintage flair. The Old Refectory, ideal for larger weddings (when restrictions lift) has a beautiful parquet floor and in the evening, it sets the stage for a band or disco. Ceremonies take place in The Panelled Hall with the large front doors opening on to the front of the house offering far-flung views across the valley to Codden Hill. The 16 th -century Elizabethan Gatehouse, with its original wooden doors, is a superb choice for an outdoor wedding and there’s also the option of St Peter’s Church just a two-minute walk from the bottom of the garden. For micro weddings, the study and the Morning Room are both charming spaces located at the front of the house. Ceremony licence? The tall windows have been designed to showcase the panoramic views and the space offers flexible room layout options. The bifold doors encourage guests to enjoy the paved terrace where seating is provided and there are subtle external lighting and a large firepit. The terrace flows seamlessly down to the extensive lawns and adjacent cornfield, perfect for garden games and big-day pictures. Ceremonies take place in a choice of licensed areas for between eight and 300 guests (when current restrictions lift). Outside, the Clock House commands a stunning location with incredible views as the backdrop. Receptions usually take place in the Main Hall that can seat up to 150 loved ones at round tables for dinner and up to 300 guests for the evening reception.
