DEER’S LEAP RETREAT, SOUTH MOLTON, DEVON This family-run countryside venue that specialises in exclusive weekend and overnight weddings is set in its own secluded valley offering far-reaching views. The converted stone barn, nestled in the garden beneath a wooded hillside and above the ceremony lake, is brimming with character, featuring bare walls and exposed beams. There’s a cartwheel chandelier suspended from the ceiling, a bar and lounge area with comfy seating and double doors leading to the patio. Outside there are firepits, romantic festoon lighting and large comfy seating. Deer’s Leap farmhouse is more than 900-years old and combines a timeless ambience revealing low beams and inglenook fireplaces with comfort and modern luxuries, like twin hot tubs and a sauna. It’s set in gardens that enjoy views across the rolling hills and lead down to the lake and the hand-built wooden Lakeside Gazebo which can accommodate up to 150 guests for outdoor ceremonies. The Stone Barn is also licensed for ceremonies of up to 150 loved ones, and the farmhouse can host a more intimate 50 guests. The Barn can seat between 100 and 125 guests for a sit-down wedding breakfast or evening reception, depending on table arrangements. There’s also the option of holding the wedding breakfast or reception outside for up to 150 loved ones but a marquee will be required and couples can choose their supplier. Glass-roof structures, stretch canvas tents and tipis are also a great option with guests seated on hay bales. Smaller receptions of between 25 and 50 people can enjoy the farmhouse, either seated or buffet-style. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a picnic by the lake sitting on ornate rugs or tartan picnic blankets, and the sunsets here are the icing on the cake. Ceremony licence? HAREFIELD BARN, CREDITON, DEVON This exclusive-use venue is situated in the heart of the Devon countryside only ten minutes from Exeter. It offers panoramic views and has its own wildflower meadow home to unusual sculptural pieces - all Insta-worthy backdrops for big-day photographs. There are also cider apple orchards close by, adding to the photographic opportunities. The interior of the barn is wonderfully light and airy, with huge windows designed to capture the stunning views. It has contemporary touches, like the bifold doors allowing guests to spill out on to the terrace where tables and chairs are provided. There’s subtle external lighting and a large firepit for guests to enjoy. The terrace flows seamlessly on to the extensive lawns and adjacent cornfield. Ceremonies take place in a choice of seven licensed areas for between eight and 300 guests that include the porch, main hall, bar, gallery, the chapel-like space with a vaulted ceiling known as The Tallet, the Leveret Suite that’s decorated like a glamorous boudoir and the Clocktower, a stunning outdoor location with the incredible view as the backdrop. The choice of where to hold the wedding breakfast and evening reception is up to each couple, with most taking place in the main hall that can seat up to 150 loved ones at round tables for the wedding breakfast, and up to 300 for the evening reception, with an outside space allocated adjacent to the building for mobile catering vans.
