BEAUTIFUL BARNS AND FARMS These set the backdrop for a rustic-inspired day HUMBER BARN, BISHOPSTEIGNTON, DEVON This idyllic venue is set in 100 acres of beautiful farmland with views stretching across Dartmoor and the Bishopsteignton hillside and is available for exclusive hire over three days. Originally the lambing shed, the barn has been beautifully restored keeping its original character. It’s fully glass-fronted with a hand-crafted wooden door opening out on to the patio which is the perfect spot for reception drinks and garden games, with the rolling Devonshire fields as a scenic backdrop, plus a sheep or two! Inside, the barn oozes rustic charm with elegant finishing touches. At night, the fairylights (that decorate the barn permanently) add a romantic ambience and the horse trailer that’s been converted into a cocktail bar always provides the wow-factor for guests. Giant illuminated LOVE letters, a sweetie cart and flower wall are also available. Ceremonies take place in the barn for up to 150 guests or in the affectionately named Hog Hut with up to 150 loved ones seated on hay bales on the lawn outside. The wedding breakfast is also hosted inside for up to 150 people, and the evening reception can hold up to 250 guests. The sliding doors lead on to the patio and lawn, ideal for long, summer evenings and the venue also suits intimate weddings and elopements.  THE ASHRIDGE GREAT BARN, NORTH TAWTON, DEVON This historic barn is set on a working farm in the rolling Devonshire countryside. Nestled in its own valley, it’s surrounded by green pastures and a sustainably managed, wildlife-friendly woodland. Previously a grain barn and with some parts of the structure being 500 years old, it retains many original features. The space is split-level with a built-in dancefloor, moveable bar and flexible entryways. It also features a snug area and accessible toilet facilities. The exterior space includes a firepit, space for food vans and outdoor seating, a catering barn and a lawn area. The pretty gardens situated beyond the barn include a Victorian arboretum, walled garden and a civil ceremony space known as the Magic Circle. There are plenty of photogenic spots for big-day photographs and al fresco drinks. Ceremonies take place in the main body of the barn, known as the Main Barn, that provides a rustic backdrop for up to 120 guests. There’s also the snug area that’s often used for a more intimate ceremony and holds up to 40 loved ones. Outdoor ceremonies take place in the Magic Circle Pavilion, an idyllic spot tucked away in the grounds surrounded by a ring of conifers and Japanese maple trees. It offers unlimited capacity and is ideal for summery celebrations. The wedding breakfast takes place inside the barn for up to 140 seated guests with a maximum capacity of 200 loved ones for the evening reception. Formal seating at round or trestle tables can be arranged, or a more informal atmosphere can be created with mixed pieces of furniture and there are no corkage charges. The outdoor space adjacent to the barn that includes the lawn is ideal for garden games and an evening buffet, and the gardens (including those that surround the Magic Circle) are great for an afternoon tea party or drinks reception.
