Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - July/August 2020 (Issue 26)

THE BEDFORD HOTEL, TAVISTOCK This historic hotel sits just across the road from St. Eustachius’ Church and the Pannier Market that this quaint town is well known for. It reflects the style and grandeur of the area and is packed full of charm, with original features and antiques on display in the public areas, and 31 individually styled bedrooms ranging from the comfortable classic ones to the indulgent four-poster rooms and the elegant bridal suite. The pretty front garden is delightful, especially in spring and summer with its flowers in full bloom, and one of the hotel’s best-kept secrets is its ancient Walled Garden, often referred to as The Secret Garden, with its manicured lawn, formal borders and a herb garden used by the hotel’s chefs. Ceremonies take place in the historic wood-panelled Woburn Room for up to 90 guests while the reception for up to 100 loved ones is hosted in the Gallery 26 function suite, a bright and contemporary space at the heart of the hotel. It features floor-to-ceiling windows, atmospheric lighting, a dancefloor, air conditioning and underfloor heating. Although the room is contemporary in style, the historic features of the hotel are cleverly revealed in the design, giving it a unique flair. TWO BRIDGES HOTEL, DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK This country house hotel and former coaching inn located in the heart of Dartmoor is perched on the banks of the West Dart River. It oozes character and style as you first approach it over a historic bridge, with its manicured lawns sweeping down to the water. The informal yet beautiful gardens that surround the hotel merge into the open moorland beyond, with rolling countryside vistas in every direction. Inside is like stepping back in time, with historic antiques, crackling log fires, and romantic candlelit areas offering a sense of warmth and well-being. The individually styled bedrooms range from those with a traditional country feel to indulgent premier ones with four-poster beds and spa baths. Ceremonies take place inside and out. The traditional Riverside Pagoda takes centre stage on the riverbank for a unique al fresco celebration with up to 140 guests seated on the adjacent lawn. Inside, the light-filled Fountain Room is the property’s main function suite with French windows opening on to the gardens holding up to 140 guests for a ceremony and up to 100 for a reception. The Tors Room filled with antiques and fine artwork is another ceremony option for up to 140 loved ones. ❤ We love... the bridal suite offered complimentary on the night of the wedding.
