Your Yorkshire Wedding - May/June 2026 (Issue 78)

Santa Salmina from Lister Horsfall talks bespoke wedding rings, testing your metal and everything you need to know about diamonds With roots dating back to 1902, Lister Horsfall now has showrooms in Halifax and Ilkley. So, who could be better placed to help guide your wedding ring shopping? We caught up with marketing manager Santa Salmina to ask our top questions on the subject. We haven’t been able to find wedding rings that truly feel ‘us’ and would love something unique. Can you tell us more about the bespoke process? Choosing your wedding rings should feel just as special as selecting your engagement ring. If you haven’t found something that feels quite right, bespoke is often the perfect solution. At Lister Horsfall, our bespoke process is personal and collaborative. It begins with a relaxed consultation in our Halifax or Ilkley showroom, where we take the time to understand your style, lifestyle and the story behind your relationship. Some couples bring ideas or inspiration, while others simply know they want something meaningful and individual – both are equally welcome. From there, we guide you through design options, metal choices, finishes and any personal details such as engraving, hidden stones or incorporating heirloom gold. We’ll create sketches or CAD designs so you can visualise the piece before it’s made, and we’ll refine every detail together. Our in-house expertise and long-standing craftsmanship mean your rings are created with precision and care. The result isn’t just a ring – it’s something designed around you, made to be worn every day and treasured for a lifetime. My husband-to-be has a manual job, so wear and tear on his wedding ring is a concern. What metals do you suggest he look for? This is a very common question, and it’s an important one. A wedding ring should suit not only personal style, but daily life. For someone with a manual or hands-on profession, durability is key. Platinum is often our first recommendation. It’s naturally strong, dense and doesn’t wear away over time; instead, it develops a soft patina, which many clients appreciate. It’s also hypoallergenic and extremely secure for long-term wear. Certain gold alloys can also be suitable, particularly heavierweight 18ct or 9ct options, depending on preference and budget. We would usually suggest a slightly thicker band with a comfort-fit profile for added strength and practicality. During your appointment, we’ll discuss lifestyle in detail and suggest the most appropriate metal and finish. And of course, we offer lifetime cleaning and inspection on rings purchased from us, so we can help keep them in excellent condition over the years. I’d love to have a diamond set wedding ring. What do I need to know about diamonds? A diamond-set wedding ring is such a beautiful way to add extra sparkle alongside your engagement ring. Whether you’re drawn to something delicate and understated or a fuller band with more presence, the most important thing is how it feels when you try it on. When choosing a diamond-set band, we always look at how it will sit next to your engagement ring. The height, setting style and shape all matter, especially if the two rings are going to be worn together every day. Our role is to make sure they complement one another perfectly – both visually and practically – so they feel like they were always meant to be a pair. We’ll also talk through the style of setting you prefer, whether that’s a classic claw-set band, a sleek channel-set design, or something more contemporary. Each gives a slightly different look and level of sparkle. Ultimately, it’s about choosing something that enhances your engagement ring and feels like you – something you’ll love wearing every single day.
